We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer P. Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer P., what do you attribute your success to?
Consistency. I’ve learned from some of the most successful people out there that success requires consistency. You won’t ever be successful at whatever it is that you do if you don’t have staying power. It doesn’t matter how good your brand or service/product is if you don’t stay on top of the demand. If it requires sacrifice, then sacrifice. If you’re at a point where you need to take risks, assess the risks and do whatever is feasible. Either way, consistently deliver consistency. I have projects on top of projects that I’m currently working on. I already know where I’m going next. Each time, I get better. Growth, focus and determination and are definitely factors as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a black woman directing Horror and Sci-Fi. You don’t really see a lot of that. I do comedy as well, but I really love Horror and Sci-Fi. I’ve won Best Female Director in a few film festivals recently for my work on Jacked, a Sci-Fi/Horror and Side Piece Agency, a Comedy. I didn’t really set out to be a Director or in film really, but it was a fairly seamless transition from being a Music Producer to a Writer/Director. It just came naturally to me. That’s usually how it happens when you’re destined to do something.
One of the biggest lessons in all this has been to just ride the wave. I’m seeing where this takes me. I’m enjoying the ride so far.
I want the world to know that I’m a force to be reckoned with. Grab your popcorn and buckle up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I don’t really hang out much but I do like to collect vinyl records, so definitely a trip to all the record stores in the area. Food, of course. I have my go-to spots whenever I do go out. Live music. Anything outside of that, we would have to explore together. It would be an adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to pinpoint one person or thing. I have drawn inspiration from everywhere. A big part of my growth happened during my college years from 2011-2015. Those years really changed my life and it was there that I really developed my work ethic. Outside of that, I really get inspired about any success or ‘rags to riches” story. I pay attention to the adversity that others have had to face to achieve their goals. How did they over come it? How long did it take? I absorb all of that. I learn from it. I feel like if they can do it, so can I. Shout-out to everyone who beat the odds.
