We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Oertli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My daughter was considering her next career move, and after talking, we realized we could make a go of it by combining our strengths and experiences. She worked in fashion and interior design, and I worked in marketing, advertising, and consulting. It made perfect sense to start a brand we could own.

What should our readers know about your business?
As is true for most start-ups, we began with one line of business, home accessories, and struggled with how to operate in that space. Purchase inventory? Sell online? At a retail shop? All of these were options with different financial implications. We started by importing from China & India and selling through Amazon and our own website. Ultimately, we left the Amazon game and opted for retail, connecting with a retail partner who helped us set up a presence in her shop. We also expanded into custom floral design, which is still a large part of our business today. Nothing about starting and running a business is easy. We make mistakes every day and try to learn from them. Our brand is based on family, our unique perspective and taste, and helping people find their own style for their home.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are relatively new to Atlanta, having moved here within the last several years, which means we are still finding new places to explore. The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a fave. When friends come to town, we walk the Gardens, grab breakfast at Bantam and Biddy at Ansley Mall, and take in a concert at Buckhead Theater.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without naming names, we’d like to thank all of our friends and family members who have been consistent cheerleaders for us.
