We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Elaine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by beautiful, successful Black women with positive mindsets and attitudes. My inspiration has become my subject matter for my art as well. I create phenomenal paintings that display Black women in a positive light, embracing their natural kinks and curls graced with melanin-rich skin. My art is internally driven, like a gateway to the soul. illustrating the beauty, power, dopeness, and resilience of Black women. I love big, natural Afrocentric hair and bright engaging colors, so most of my artwork displays Black women with kinky curly hair accompanied by a vibrant, colorful background.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Most people tell me that I’m a creative genius. I got to where I am today professionally by staying consistent and disciplined. I have grown my combined social media following to over 35K, and I have art collectors in almost every state, along with 3 other countries. I stay focused on growing my business and effectively marketing. I never imagined that I would have my own art gallery, and I opened my art gallery in November 2019. Even though, I was selling my art online and at various events since Sept 2015, I didn’t open my gallery until 4 yrs later.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to various art galleries and museums in the city, along with several Black-owned restaurants for dining.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout for my success to my parents. They have been the foundation to every achievement in life and entrepreneurship journey. My Dad’s sales knowledge and work ethic combined with my Mama’s comforting personality have impacted my journey so much. Their unconditional love and encouragement has kept me grounded and focused.
