We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I never planned to open my own hair salon. But it became apparent that if I wanted to find the perfect place to work, I would have to build it myself. Then the hope was that other people would be attracted to the space that I created and want to work there too. My goal is to create a clean, eco friendly, high-end space that is supportive and drama free. I care deeply about those who work for me and want to help them achieve their perfect work life balance.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own a clean air, eco friendly salon in Atlanta, GA called Creature Studio. Salons can be toxic wasteful places.. That’s why I’ve chosen to use ammonia free color and am a Green Circle salon. This means that we save all of our hair clippings, foils, color tubes, unused color to be recycled and disposed of in a way that doesn’t impact the environment. Owning a small business has it challenges, especially when the majority of that time has been during a pandemic. I feel so lucky to have my business survive this pandemic and we are beginning to thrive. I have an amazing team working at Creature. I’ve been intentional when adding to that team and try to always follow my gut. I get into trouble when I don’t listen to my intuition so I try my best to listen. I want the world to know that it is possible to love what you do, where you work, and who you work with. Don’t settle for less.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question! I recently moved south of Atlanta to a city called Palmetto. It’s so beautiful and chill and I love to host people, so my beautiful home would be the first stop. We’d head to Serenbe to grab a smoothie from Bamboo Juice and hike one of the beautiful trails in the community. I’d make sure to take them to my favorite restaurants, Red Bird, Miller Union, Wrecking Bar and Argosy. We would check out Ponce City market where we could shop at Modern Mystic, grab a drink from Bar Vegan, and head to the Rooftop to play putt putt and carnival games. The High Museum and National Center for Civil and Human Rights should not be missed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people people in my life who have supported me through this journey. Owning a business is challenging and rewarding and it would be impossible without the support from my husband, friends, and clients. I’m so inspired by Brené Brown. Her book ‘Dare to Lead’ has been so helpful to help me become the type of leader that I want to be,
