We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenish Lian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenish, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose a creative career as a makeup artist because, for me, makeup is more than just a surface-level transformation—it’s a form of emotional expression and connection. Art has always been a language for feelings that words can’t quite capture, and makeup is my medium. It allows me to tell stories, evoke emotions, and bring inner beauty and confidence to the surface. Whether it’s enhancing someone’s natural features or creating a bold editorial look, there’s a deep sense of purpose in helping people see themselves in a new light. It’s about more than beauty—it’s about identity, empowerment, and expression. This career lets me blend technical skill with emotion, and that connection is what makes it so powerful and fulfilling for me.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart as a makeup artist is that I see makeup as a form of emotional connection and storytelling—not just transformation. I’m not here to cover up flaws, I’m here to enhance what makes someone feel powerful, beautiful, or seen. My work is deeply rooted in intention and energy. I listen. I feel. I create from that space.

Getting to where I am today in my business wasn’t easy. There were times I doubted myself, times I questioned if I could really make a career out of something creative and personal. I started with very little—just passion, a few brushes, and a lot of heart. I said yes to everything in the beginning, worked long hours, invested in myself, and slowly built trust with my clients.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your energy is your brand. People remember how you made them feel even more than how they looked. Being reliable, kind, and staying true to my artistic voice has carried me further than anything else.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that this is more than makeup—this is soul work. It’s about confidence, healing, and connection. When someone leaves my chair feeling more like themselves than when they sat down, that’s the magic. That’s why I do this.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely a walk at the Rocky River Reservation, enjoy the scenery and atmosphere. The Museum of Art is a stable go-to for all things creative, new findings and learnings.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to the women in my life—my mom, my friends, and every client who sat in my chair and trusted me with their face, their story, and their vulnerability. They’ve been my biggest inspiration and support system. I also want to recognize the makeup artist community—those who share their craft, their journey, and their knowledge. Whether it’s through YouTube, Instagram, or just a kind word behind the scenes, their passion continues to push me creatively and remind me why I do what I do. This journey isn’t just mine—it’s built on the encouragement, trust, and artistry of so many others, and I’m grateful for all of it.
