We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Scardino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
You will be humbled quickly. No matter how good the idea is you will need to grind, hustle, and sell to start. I went from working as a glamorous Creative Director in NYC to driving around a Dip Mobile trying to get people to buy dips. What I originally scripted (like everyone) didn’t come to flourish, so I was left doing everything, which included sitting outside of friend’s office buildings in the freezing cold feeling embarrassed and being humbled.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dips Kitchen is a first of its kind eatery turning dips into meals. A concept inspired by an old family tradition — an all dip Christmas Eve dinner. Every year, my Italian family gets together in his small hometown. Food is shared while opening gifts and revealing adolescent stories his parents never knew about nor wanted to know about. The menu consists of all homemade dippable foods: jalapeño and pimento spread, pepperoni balls with marinara sauce, shrimp cocktail with special sauce, cookie cream dessert with cookie dippers, and the star of the show: my mom’s famous cheese ball with assortment of crackers. Food coma comes on and belts come off.

It’s an idea I have had for a long time. I was just waiting for culture to catch up. So as I saw things like #girldinner and the grazing craze starting to take off I knew it was time to launch.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love going to Marcel Steakhouse on the Westside. My wife and I sit at the bar, get cocktails and share a steak. It reminds us of our favorite place in NYC Minetta Tavern, where we would always do the same thing.

See a comedy show at Fox Theater. I prefer more intimate settings for standup, but the Fox has a nice vibe to it.

And of course walk the belt line and check out all the food halls.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife. Not only did she do all the design and branding for the company, but she has given me endless support through my ups and downs. She has taken on raising our three kids without me a lot of the times during this first year, and she is the reason I keep going.
