We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Dwoskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It’s always been in my nature to focus my efforts towards something I’m passionate about and can bring to life. In the late 1990’s I started one of the first web development companies in the United States and have since continued to always dip my toe into entrepreneurial efforts. 19 years ago I started a side career as a professional stand-up comedian and when covid made that no longer possible with the clubs all closed I turned my create efforts towards podcasting. With my podcast I was able to suddenly talk to people I’ve watched in movies and on TV as a child and share that with the world. It’s been and continues to be an amazing journey of creativity and self discovery.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My creative focus these days is my podcast. I have always been a fan of pop culture but I’ve never been an overly obsessive fan. My podcast which focuses on talking to people from TV and movies aims to do it at the level of the everyday person that enjoys TV and movies, because that’s who I am. These are the fun conversations you would hope you could have if you ever bumped into that person you admired or loved from TV or the movies that you loved now or as a kid.
The interesting things I’ve learned along the way are that no matter how famous you think someone is they are still working as hard as ever to get their next role, just because you’re famous it doesn’t always make getting the roles that much easier. I’ve also found that most of the people I’ve talked to had one moment in their lives where someone pointed them in the direction that changed their lives and in many of the stories that person immediately disappeared from their lives. I learned we have to be open to the Universe guiding us and not be afraid to take a journey on a new path.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta, The Vortex, they have amazing hamburgers plus a super cool comedy club.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out to my wife, Robyn Dwoskin. When I dive into projects I always go head first and she’s always been so supportive and always encouraged me because she understood how important it was to me. I can’t think of a better partner in life than my wife, Robyn.
