We had the good fortune of connecting with JC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JC, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
My industry is constantly changing. Today it’s less about talent and more about business politics/money. This is overwhelming for many music creators, so I suggest actually learning the business if you’re interested in this field.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in the art of creating, performing, teaching, and monetizing Music. What sets me apart is the positive undertone of my music efforts. Rather it’s creating clean music or cultivating learning experiences for at-risk youth, I definitely have an unorthodox approach to the music industry.

I started singing in church, school/city choruses in Nashville, small groups, and talent shows. Later I met TreDotStylz who taught me how to record, write, and produce music. I’ve done music professionally for 29 years now. I’ve had major record deals, shared the stage with a plethora of major artists, landed major placements as an artist, songwriter, and producer; but I’m most proud about my recent success in music education. I’m also excited about becoming a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys).

The road has definitely been difficult. I’ve had 5 vocal surgeries due to polyps (none since 2016). I’ve also had countless negative experiences with contractual breaches, song theft, colleague death, and a long list of let-downs (far too many to mention). I overcame it all by being resilient, living a life of service, and staying close to God along the way. That’s my formula for Success, but even more so Peace. A wise man (my father) once told me that the true measurement of success is the positive impact you have on others & the Peace you attain along the way….not the money & fame; that will come with it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta has sooooo many options for hanging out. I wouldn’t know where to start. But here’s some options: rooftop lounges, The Battery, Atlanta Fish House & Grill, Sunday Brunch (multiple spots), Cultivate, Lenox Mall, Atlantic Station, Ponce City Market, Saddle Up GA, The Interlock, Slutty Vegan, St. James, Falcons/Hawks/Braves games, Botanical Gardens, Six Flags, White Water, tubing on the Chattahoochee……Ok ok, this is impossible. Just call me because it depends on the day of the week and the time of day LOL

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout my immediate family. They’ve been the most supportive during my music journey. What’s crazy is they know nothing about it other than the fact that I’m the one doing it; and that’s all that matters. My family as a whole has been pretty supportive, but my immediate family consisting of my two sisters Leah & Natasha, and my parents Dr. Dennis & Ethel Crowder, have been the most supportive. They’ve literally changed the dates on major holidays to support my overseas work. They purchase everything I release and frequently check on the status of my efforts, as well as my emotional and spiritual health. The spiritual component is huge because my family prays for me regularly.
