We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazz Owusu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazz, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Luke 12:48 says “To whom much is given, much will be required”. Ghanaian artists both in Ghana and in the diaspora have amazing talent, but lack proper resources and exposure. That’s where I come in. I love my country and the music it produces, and I have made it my responsibility to push underground and underrated Ghana artists to the forefront.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love Ghana and the music and entertainment it produces. I also just love discovering new music in general from artists in my area. That makes me appreciate the process and excited to be a part of an artist’s story.

A major challenge for me has definitely been imposter syndrome and it’s honestly gotten in the way of some opportunities for me in the past. I don’t have a lot of “clout” and there’s so many people around me who do similar things so it’s hard not to compare. I just have to remind myself everyday that God is in control and as long as I work hard and focus, I’ll end up right where I’m supposed to be.

I want the world to know that all of my work comes from my heart. I will say it again and again, I’m not a musician but I love music and any way I can be a part of someone’s growth, I will take the chance. I want people to know that I’m hear for those who have beautiful talents but they don’t have the resources yet to showcase themselves to the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would knock out the touristy spots like the Statue of Liberty and World Trade Center. Then I’d probably take them to get some street food (Halal Cart food is a personal favorite). I’d definitely take them to explore the Afrobeat night life scene because it gets crazy in NYC. Finally, I’d look to see if there were any festivals/carnivals for us to go to together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In asking me this, you want me to go on for ages! Here goes nothing: mmmy brother in law Nana Kwesi for always believing in me and wanting to help me in anyway possible, Kojo for giving me the courage to follow my purpose, Agyakomah for giving me my first job in the music business, my clubhouse family for giving me the spark I needed to finally figure out what I wanted to do career-wise, John Hill and Harmattan Rain for giving me my first media internship, Gyrl Wonder for opening up a world of possibilities in the media space, my girls (Nina, Kelly & co.) for always giving a helping hand when needed, Julia for always pointing me back to God for the answers, my sisters for always giving me nuggets of wisdom and making me feel way more famous than I am, Kevin for making this opportunity even possible, Eugene for helping me with plan my first major event (details to come), every single person who has ever supported me in any way (directly or indirectly) my parents for their sacrifices in coming to a whole new world to raise their children, and of course to Jesus for being the head of my life.
