We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaytilya Watkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaytilya, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because I’ve always been an artist. Every since I was a child in the 2nd grade I could always illustrate pictures. My dad and my late grandma were both gifted with the same talent. I inherited this creative size of me from them. It’s who I was meant to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an woman author who loves to write about women related issues because of my own experiences and other women’s experiences. I am inspired by our experiences to write. I’m an artists who illustrates & paint pictures of people & places because I enjoy life & like to create lifelike artwork. I film documentaries because I enjoy filming. The truth is that if it was for Jesus & my Father in Heaven I wouldn’t have ever overcome many of my struggles. There are many of arrogant people who will swear they have the power to get their selves out of harsh situations and this is true. However if it was for Jesus & God allowing us to wake up everyday. We wouldn’t be alive to have this power. I haven’t made it to where I want to be in life but if got allows me to live long enough I will be. There’s uniqueness in everything I do. It may not be what people are familiar with but it is different. That’s what makes it unique. My story is somewhere in all of my projects whether it’s my illustrations or my books. I’m still learning. If I told you my lessons I’ve learned I’d be here all day. So, I’ll keep it short. Love, live, & learn.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m more of a home body & I am my own best friend besides husband & my mom. I always wanted to go on a vacation in Miami, Florida though. So, if they were down for going we would definitely go there. And when we got there we would go to a luxury restaurant & hotel afterwards.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jesus Christ (My Lord & Savior) for dying for my sins. There were many times in my life where I could’ve died but he saved my life all of those times. My mom Jeanette Watkins for always motivating & inspiring me in my career adventure. My dad for trying his best to protect me in a world that constantly showed me that I wasn’t safe. My husband for protecting me as I pursue my career adventures. My close friends, relatives, & other people who supports me
