We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayni Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayni, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a teacher, I founded my business with the goal of educating my community about health. My initiative is to show people how to take care of themselves using the power of nature. Practicing preventative health is a lifestyle. Most of the time, learning how to make those changes in your day to day life can feel overwhelming, when in reality, something as simple as a cup of warm tea before bed can help promote healthy digestion. My ultimate goal is to help teach people how to make their kitchen their medicine cabinet. Even if its one cup of tea at a time!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a community educator, first. I started out in adult education, helping people get their GED (general education development). The Public Allies of Cincinnati gave me my first experience as a teacher, but I continued teaching in adult education for 5 years with Santa Maria Community Services. I soon after added substitute teaching at Job Corps Cincinnati to my experience. I started working with the youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Cincinnati, in 2012. Being a program leader sparked my love and passion for working with the youth. During my 10 years with the Boys and Girls Club I worked with all grade levels: K-12. As a certified teacher I was able to lead sessions in staff professional development, as well.

Through all of these titles, the most important one has always been “Mom”. I was also a student until 2021 when I graduated with my Master’s Degree. No, it was not easy. Family, support, resilience, and the serenity prayer got me through it all.

I started my business in 2020: the same year I started teaching as a licensed science teacher. I hadn’t finished school yet, but the masters was on the way! I wanted my passion to mirror my business. I learned how live a healthy lifestyle over the years and started out by helping teach my family and friends how I did it, with food recipes. The first product that my business offered was sea moss gel, but our “Herb Infused Local Honey” is what really put us on the map! Shortly after, we added our “Honey Drenched Herbs”, tea accessories, and other dried herbs. We’ll tell you more about the challenges of starting a food business when we’re ready to offer classes to help others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Cincinnati is a great place to visit. Our first stop would be Findlay market! There is a great selection of authentic international food all year around. Over the summer there are special events, specialty vendors, and live music to enjoy. While at the market we’ll visit Banasun Smoothie Bar for an acai bowl, then walk over to ETC and grab some of our flavored honey straws, and then lunch at Flavor of the Isle for some authentic Jamaican food!
Washington park is the next stop (which is within walking distance) for some more family fun activities, maybe even catch a good band playing on a Friday evening for their summer concert series. there’s even a closed off space for your dog to play!

Our last stop would be “The Banks” down by the Ohio river. There’s an assortment of bars and restaurants in this area. My favorite thing is the “purple people bridge”. We can walk to Kentucky and have fun at Newport on the Levy.

My honorable mention would have to be a visit to Eden park. There’s a conservatory, an art museum, and one of the best views of the Ohio River.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to my CFO, May Walker! May is my youngest sister, my right hand, my soul twin, my children’s other mother, and my biggest supporter! May encouraged me to start my business, she saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself, an entrepreneur. Not only did she give me the push I needed to start my business, she has also been the back-bone of my business as I have continued to pursue my educational and career-oriented endeavors, May has helped support me and my family, and helped to keep my business growing. That’s what makes this dedication so special, because she’s special, everybody needs a May!
