We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaylond Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylond, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
There are several habits that has helped me succeed not only in a business aspect, but on a personal level as well. The first habit is being constant. When your able to show your work and have positive feedback you have to maintain the consistency, so that individuals will keep coming back for more. Another habit that aids in my success is persistent. I’ve learned that everything is not going to go as plan the first go round, however; being persistent will show that no matter how difficult the goal is you have to finish strong. Sometimes that requires going back to the drawing board to see what works and what doesn’t. If you’re a logistic type of person like me then failure is not an option and persistent is a important trait to have.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work in the automotive industry as a service advisor. This is not a field that you see a lot of females work in much less African American females. You may ask why a customer service role. Yes, working in a customer service job does have its pros and cons, but i ABSOLUTELY love my job. I love being able to interact with people while learning about cars at the same time, but this was not an easy course. I received my degree in Meteorology, so entering in this industry was completely different for me. Knowing certain terminology or persuading guest to buy services from you can be challenging especially when it’s a commission-based career field. However, taking the time to learn and get proper training as well as being willing to grow on your own time is imperative to being a successful advisor. As far as the challenges, the car industry time is everything, but there are factors that will be out of your control, so you have to figure out a mini game plan to make sure I look like the hero. I work currently at Nalley Toyota of Stonecrest for almost 4 years and I can’t wait to continue my journey in this field

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my mother. I have learned a lot from her living in a single parent household. I’ve seen her endure some hardships and learned how to overcome the battles is very encouraging because she kept going. Secondly, I want to shoutout my chapter THEE Distinguished Delta Gamma Chapter of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity Inc. I serve as the current chapter president, and they have humbled me in so many ways as well as taught me to be a better leader. Plus they are my family away from home
