We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Jamerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The amusing thing about it, there was no thought. Initially, my thoughts were solidified about not doing hair anymore due to the constant busyness of my life and being a single parent. However, with the push of my son and warm thoughts of my late mother, I found my passion again for doing hair. You see, my mother was my inspiration for doing hair from the start. She was the crown jewel who everyone in town would stop by to sit at the kitchen table and get serviced with the latest hairstyle. We all know how creative 90s hairstyles were.

Since the fifth grade and forward, I have created and shaped crowns one style at a time so it was inevitable for me to push through with what I knew would be not only a success, but also an opportunity to give my clients the best customer service that would be unmatched. Also drawing my inspiration from the bad experiences I received while getting serviced at other salons, I knew I wanted to be committed to my clients and provide “next to none” service, hence the name “Nx2None Locs & More”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was born and raised in Punta Gorda, FL just Southwest of Tampa. I then later moved to Atlanta, GA in early 2013. With my mother being a single mom of four, I was able to witness how strong she was and how hard she worked to ensure we were well taken care of. She always believed in and supported me no matter how big or small my dreams were. Being able to learn and draw from her life, it was the best thing I’ve ever experienced and will always keep near to my heart. She loved her clients and always ensured they left with a smile. I will always remember how happy my friends and family were after they received hair services from me. It made my heart smile knowing that I emulated the footprints of my mother’s love and compassion for her clients by having the same effect on my youth and adults’ clients.

Success requires hard work and time in which you will need to pour in a consistent effort to achieve greatness in life. Without a strong and emotional reason to back you up, you will give up whenever things become difficult. In essence, my biggest factor behind my success and brand is by upholding the Nx2None Locs & More brand and embodying the mission statement. My main goal is to give each client the treatment they desire. Since customer satisfaction is the ultimate goal, we here at Nx2None favors originality and individuality. We aim to go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver the best service possible. When each client stands out of the chair and walks out the door, I want them to be able to own and fully express themselves with their new look.

My end goal is to eventually own a salon and expand my hair care products. I dream of having my products on display and for sale not only at Beauty Supply Stores but at major retail stores such as Walmart, Target, etc. Lastly, I yearn to mentor and mold young african american princesses by teaching and sharing my personal experiences about the hair business and start an apprenticeship under Nx2None Locs & More, LLC.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first thank my son, De’Amare and my best friend Eboni for encouraging me from the beginning up to now. I want to also thank all my clients for their non stop loyalty and support to Nx2None Locs & More.
