We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success as anything that you do that makes you happy. It’s not always about the money or the tangible things. I want a career that I don’t have to take a vacation from as soon as I get off vacation.

What should our readers know about your business?
My company is called 3904CandleCo. I hand make candles, wax melts, and carpet deodorizer. What’s different is Im a black chandler. I wanted to do something different you see clothing, shoes, purses boutiques all the time! But anytime you want a candle where are you going Bath and Body Works right? I wanted to work my own lane. I quit my business every month lol but it’s always just then Ill receive a order so I have to keep going. Im also venturing out with my business Ive started teaching candle making classes because I needed a change and why not teach people something that I love to do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was dreading this question lol!!!! I literally don’t go out! Im such a homebody! Im home in my bed with my hookah, my glass of wine, and my YouTube! I will say this year I do plan on traveling more got some trips planned so best friend better be ready to go on some adventures with me! But if we had to go out here in Birmingham I usually just google random places to eat or go and we pop out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout the kid. All of my adult life has been dedicated to raising my son but in all of that hes helped me. Its funny you spend all this time teaching them not realizing the teacher is also the student. I want better for my son so I in turn have to get better to give him better. Being a parent is not for the weak but nothing is more amazing then seeing your seed be the best version of you.
