We had the good fortune of connecting with Jawanda Marsh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jawanda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Self care! I have always worked so hard for everything I have, realizing that I was working to build someone else while in the meantime I was falling apart physically and mentally. In 2017, I lost everything that I had worked so hard for, for years. My car, my place of living, my savings all gone, and my job.I begin to have anxiety and my hair started falling out. In 2019, because of Covid I was able to sit back and think on 2018 and I wanted to know what happen, how did I let this happen. Let me tell you God is always on time, To God be the glory for everything I faced. Praying to God to show me my purpose in life because I was at a point of losing my mind, I had no peace and I was very angry. Through pray, I begin to receive direction in life through the preaching of Gods Word, friends, family, and love ones. I knew it wasn’t no one but God because I had not yet express to anyone how I was feeling. I started my business in 2017 with inspiration from friends and family because I was so well in doing lashes, but I still felt that wasnt me or my purpose I had been praying for. I would work hard at though, delivering lashes daily to make ends meet because I was out of work. In 2018, I begin to work for Marriott were I was able to learn the ends and out of Food and Beverage, well a hotel period. I was excited and loved what I was doing. This start to show me my purpose in life. Serving others, but you not able to serve unless you are well taken care of spiritually, mentally, and naturally. In 2019, due to Covid I was laid off, then here came that anxiety. I was not able to do what I love at the time, but then I realized I could serve my household and myself. The one thing that I needs to target was my hair, it was gone and I was wearing wigs, scarfs, and braids. I wanted to feel good about myseld again, because that happen to me in 2017 cause me to lose myself and my outer appearance. I started looking at herbs helpful for hair problems related to stress and hair falling out in patches. I started experimenting on the men in my life. The results begin to amaze me, so I started using the products I made with my daughter in her hair and mine. My daughter problem was thinness and mine was just falling out, after 6 months of using my products on our hair results, results, results. Lets just say I was more than amazed. This whole process begin to show me that I had lost taking care of myself. I begin to take pride in wash day. I will pamper myself, feeling good mentally and physically and to be clear I never stopped praying! I finally knew what my purpose was, I reached out for advice because I saw in clear as day all women need is self care to be their best self. My Bishop advised me to write my goals down and I did just that. I begin to see it more, and things start happening. I wanted to share my products, the process, and the success with other women. I took a leap of faith and put my products out there for the people, because I know that I had to show women the process and tell my story. I know as women we don’t take care of our self the way we take care of others, so started a self care challenge along with vision boards event. This open up the opportunity for me to not only sale my products, but serve women with self care and a purpose. Yes! I found my purpose and yes I give God the Glory and the Honor! He brought through trails and tribulations to fulfil my purpose and I love it here!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I tell anyone I was destine to serve people. My first job was Chick Fil A, I was in high school and the most exciting part was saying my pleasure and the guest leaving happy. From there, I went to college for nursing because I knew I wanted to take care and serve people in life. I worked at restaurants while in college serving/ bartending and felt like I was always making a difference in someone life everyday with my smile and outstanding personality. I got all the way to clinicals in nursing and realized I did not like that kind of service. I looked into going to school for hospitality, but because I got a job at Holiday Inn I dismissed the thought and started working in the field. I realized I may be smart but school dont always have to be the choice to be great in life. I loved working at the Holiday Inn so I found myself staying in this field wanting to work my way up to the too. I worked every department at a hotel but my favorite was Food and Beverage. I am now currently an Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at a Marriott property. I love it, to the point I desire to make it my own and Yes its on my Vision Board!
