We had the good fortune of connecting with Javonna Waldon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Javonna, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Patience, when I first started back doing nails in 2016 I really wasn’t focused but still expected my clientele to pay my bills… well it didn’t lol. I had to take a step back and get a regular job but I continued practicing and building inventory with my checks. When I quit my job in 2020 and reopened Nailed by J, I came back stronger and with better everything, and my clientele started picking up and became more diverse.Last year I said I wanted to be so booked that I was hard to get in with, Nailed it in 2022!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I always knew I wanted to do nails and be my own boss. I first gained interest in when I was in elementary school, I was always watching my big sister get her nails done or buying the little kits from the store. I’m proud of myself for getting back in school and obtaining my license, which is the one thing I know that sets me apart from other artists. So the first year covid hit, I caught it and spent my entire quarantine at my desk watching videos on 3D, shaping, different designs literally critiquing myself because I wanted to be the best tech in my town. Along the way I’ve learned that you can’t rush anything, everything has its own timing, it takes continuous practice. I love my clients, and supporters very much. I can’t speak too soon on my blessings but I will say I will be launching my first press on line January 2023. Just know big things are coming to Nailed By J.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lol okay so there’s not much in my town it’s literally 2 blinks and a red light so I visit Valdosta a lot. My favorite place to eat would be Longhorn , rib-eye of course, but if the wait is too long then I love Mexican from El Paso which is downtown ! I really don’t party but we may catch a movie or something, maybe go by Mulligans during happy hour. I mostly travel out of town for fun and excitement though
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So I would like to personally thank and appreciate my Fiancé Shamiah for giving me the extra push and reassurance everytime I wanted to give up. I love you suga!
My nail tech of 10 years Francheska aka Fancy, owner of Nails By Fancy for her continuous mentorship.
My sister Kristi for being my hand model and recommending me. I love and appreciate every single one of you!
