We had the good fortune of connecting with Javan Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Javan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
This is a very good question, thank you for asking. My thought process behind starting my own business was to work hard for myself as I previously did for someone else, but this time try to enjoy it. Starting your own business is not an easy task but with patience, dedication, and determination it can be very rewarding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JuJu Alkaline Water cares about the community by providing purified alkaline drinking water. The cleaner the water the cleaner the cells in the body. JuJu Alkaline Water uses Glass instead of Plastic which sets us apart from other water brands. JuJu Alkaline Water goes through a 10-Stage Filtration process with reverse osmosis and is free of Chlorine, lead, and other harmful chemicals. Our water is not only Alkaline it is also Purified. Selling our product in only glass is no easy task but rather challenging. Most businesses would have chosen the easier and cheaper route, but we rather stand for what we believe in. Having a team that supports you is a major lesson learned along this journey. We want the world to know that we are a black owned brand who offers excellent customer service and cares about our community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although originally from Brooklyn New York I truly enjoy living in Atlanta because it truly represents Black excellence. There is so much to do in Atlanta if you have never visited before. Atlanta is an entertainment town, but it is best that you have a well-balanced visit. A list of places we would visit below. Food: Mangos because they have the best King Fish in the City. Fellini’s Pizza used to be #1 because you could get a slice of pizza late night, but things changed due to Covid. Big Bang Pizza is amazing, and I just discovered this spot. Soul Vegetarian has the best Veggie Lasagna on Thursdays. Aviva by Kameel has the best Red Snapper and Mediterranean food. Exercise: Decatur Boxing Club is a must along with A Fighter 4 Life and Effect Fitness. We would also visit Piedmont Park as well as the Belt Line. Entertainment: We would enjoy Andretti’s Go Carts and hit up a Hookah Lounge. I could name so much more to do as Atlanta is one interesting place.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you Ayo for the suggestion on this interview, this was fun.  Reading the Four Agreements really changed my life and way of thinking. “StrengthsFinders 2.0” by Gallup & Tom Rath taught me the different types of people to align with and also allowed me to learn more about who I as a person. “How to Eat To Live” & “Message to a Blackman in America” by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad showed me that I am Powerful and our body is our temple that must be protected. I could not have accomplished any of my goals without the encouragement and assistance from my Family, Denetreis, Serenity, & Saige.
