We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Enrique and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I felt like it was the only way to truly be in a state of mental positivity. Trying to live an ordinary life was actually quite depressing, so being able to use my mind for something that I’m passionate about was very liberating and the accolades from fans and peers allow me to continue having that fire and passion to keep going.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started having in interest in media, specially radio back in 2005, when I was a delivery driver listening to the radio nonstop, to the point where I was listening more for the on air personalities than the music itself, next thing you know, I start emulating and imitating these radio personalities while subconsciously working on my speech patterns and voice. Unfortunately the radio business is a cut throat business full of personal politics that get involved and at this point, is also a dying industry, with all the options people have nowadays, so that dream was pretty much put to bed, yet I still felt the need to breakout with this talent I’ve come to develop. Fast forward to modern times, podcasting has become the new wave, and allows talent and content creators to have the creative freedom how they see fit, as a opposed to the radio business who have their agendas. At first, getting the podcast off was tough as far as wanting to put the “perfect” product out there, which led to procrastination in the beginning, then it had reached a boiling point of realizing I’m contradicting myself and letting my words speak more than my actions, so then I decided to release it without feeling it was really ready, but it was necessary because it got me to finally put the wheels in motion, and at that point it was no looking back and time to stay consistent and learn how to grow as it progresses. So I say that to say to anyone out there, there’s no such thing as the “right time”, if the opportunity is there, and there’s nothing truly holding you back, just go for it, and learn on the go, or else you’ll stay complacent. What I would want the world to know about me, is that I’m unapologetically honest with myself to my audience. Some of the things I’ve shared with my audience are things people normally wouldn’t share with the outside world because they’re afraid of judgement and criticism, or being afraid to be perceived as weak. I wear my emotions and truth on my sleeve, which includes my confidence as well as my vulnerability, my sense of humor as well as my seriousness, my vulgarity as well as my professionalism. Once I started doing that, my audience reciprocated to that and have called me brave and also feel that it’s ok to be honest with themselves as well. It makes me feel great to know that making a positive impact on others has given me purpose in life afterall, even if it is through a passion such as a podcast.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start out the day with a Jersey classic breakfast of Taylor Ham, (yes it’s called a Taylor Ham), egg and cheese sandwich, and also introduce them to my family and friends who mean the world to me, continue the day in Hoboken to show the energy and history of the area, end the night with the beautiful views looking over across the river to NYC.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wanna give a shoutout to Joe Fucarino of Jersey Media for believing in my talent, Marvin Perdomo of Bravery Studios for being a huge supporter of the brand, to MindMinx of The MindMinx Show, who continues to inspire me with her friendship and professionalism, and last but certainly not least, the whole state of New Jersey for being unapologetically proud of who we are, which drives me to be unapologetically proud to be here.
