We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine T. Boykins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine T., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had my own hustle on the side even as I was a full time in employee at someone’s job. I was tired of the fake advertising of hair care that aren’t really meant for African American women. I wanted to start a new brand with meaning and inspiration behind it. So I brain stormed and said “I am going to create naturally made hair products for all hair types”. I started researching how to start a business and it went from there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I label myself as an entrepreneur with a full time job. Besides my small business I am a full-time healthcare employee, working on the Covid crisis! I have been in healthcare since 2013 with a a background of customer service. Working healthcare even before Covid was very stressful and you spend more time at the hospital than you do with your family which is the downfall! I love what I do professionally and I love to encourage and help people feel well. Lessons that I’ve learned along the way is always follow my dreams if I would have follow my dreams and believe that myself first versus listening to others and doubting myself I would have launched my business but I am still blessed and JHC is growing every day in the beauty industry!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to go is Ponce city market. I love the city view the food and the atmosphere as a whole. Piedmont park is beautiful for long walks and bike rides which I love to do on Sundays! Slutty vegan is my favorite on the go place to eat! I love the entire menu and the staff have great energy. A nice pool hall with an outside area and great drinks location in the tucker area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my sister whom is the owner of Slayed By Jade Media LLC. She designs all of my graphics, logos, revamp my website, how to do my own product photo shoot, plus so much much. Jade basically held my hand and mentored me me through starting a business. Especially when it came to building my business social media on all platforms and my website. I learn so much from her!!
