We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Pollard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first wanted to start my own business I was scared of failing and more afraid that my friends and family would not support me in the decision that I was choosing to make. I stepped out on faith anyhow and started my business from nothing nevertheless as I grew I realized I shouldn’t focus on those that wasn’t supporting me and I should focus and give my attention more to those that were supporting me consistently. As a changed my view things started to get better for me and I started to see things at a different perspective than when I first started my business.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud and excited about the things we plan to bring to Jazz It Up Beauty Bar in the near future but I am most proud of how far I’ve come without giving up when at times I really just wanted to throw in the towel but God!!! He said, “This is only the beginning and you are not done with what I’ve called you to do!!”
Was it easy?
Not at all. I’ve come a long way but I still actually have a ways to go because I have so much planned to take my brand to the next level to not only help me but my clients and other stylist as well.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way…
Sometimes you have to change the way I looked at things and everyone won’t see my vision the way I see it so I knew I had to refocus. Also, you definitely cannot take advice and suggestions from everyone because the same people you share it with are sometimes preying on you and using your ideas as their very own. Everyone does not mean you well so you definitely have to watch the company you keep && have faith in yourself!!!
I’ve overcome so many challenges when it comes to business my simply just TALKING TO GOD! I pray and cry to him then I let him guide me in the path that I should go in. Every challenge I have faced and will face will only be a TEST for my TESTIMONY!
I knew I had a gift in hair when I was entering high school. Everyday I’m working on building and perfecting my brand in so many ways! What sets my business apart from others… At Jazz It Up Beauty Bar, we focus on your natural hair and it being HEALTHY even when you’re getting extension services. Its never about the money, its making sure that you’re happy and your hair is happy! When you come to us we want you to be able to sit in the chair and not worry about anything just relax and let us assist you on your healthy hair journey.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely give a shoutout to my family and my best friend because they all push me to my fullest potential and my reason for never giving up when I wanted too. Most importantly, shoutout to my clients and future clients… Ya’ll are the reason I will continue to grow and the reason my brand will continue to grow, I truly thank all of you guys!
