We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve had a lot of thoughts behind starting my business. At first, it was a bunch of what if’s? or I want to do this but i don’t know how the income will turn out.. I will say in the beginning I had so many excuses on starting my business. I seeked a lot of advice from others on how should I go about starting a business and then running it properly, so i brainstormed first on different brand names, then I started off selling lashes, finding names for those different styles, searching high and low for vendors, and matching their prices. It was a long thought process but i did it Also during that process, during the beginning of the pandemic, three days before my birthday; my mom had went into the ER and had a heart attack and was out for 7 mins…I remember the doctor calling me telling me what happened and that she was in a coma, my whole world stopped because I never thought my mom would go through that in her life and it really opened my eyes and really woke me up. At that moment, I had to really think on a lot of things and then my business came to thought. I told myself at that moment that it is time! It is time to step out here on faith and get the ball rolling to do what I had to do and do something that my mom can definitely be proud of, she was the main reason that I am stepping so wide out here on a leap of faith selling lashes and doing makeup. My thought process was mainly having the faith, believing in God during that process and really having everything wrote out and planned.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well for starters I am from East Atlanta and that’s where I am based as a makeup artist. My art is my mind, my mind is my creativity. I LOVE art, art can be created through anything. What makes me different from others is that I love to create a look at that moment and just take that risk, most of my looks that I have done have been my first time doing them, my favorite traits is that I learn and catch on very quick. I been doing my own makeup for 6 years and throughout that time many people have asked me “why don’t you do other people faces?” umm I was scared and nervous lol, but now I LOVE to do other females makeup. I love to make women feel beautiful and put a smile on their faces because it makes me happy. I’m most proud of how hard I worked and how much I have approved on being a makeup artist as a whole because I am self taught. I look at different makeup looks and artist to see what I need to improve on or finding different techniques that can broaden my creativity and knowledge. The only hard part with starting off as a MUA is that I was nervous and I had overthinked a lot, and not having as much clientele, that was my struggle but now i’m relaxing and i’m more comfortable so ya girl is good now😊 The lessons I learned so far is that: having patience for everything, trusting the process , know how to market properly, know the difference between what you need and what you don’t need to have, budget your money for your business, and having a great support system. I want the world to know that my brand will be so much bigger than what it is as of right now. I have so much creativity that I want to show the world and my brand KeepitJassyLashnGlam LLC is here to stay.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say, LaParilla is a nice mexican spot for drinks and food. Also, downtown atlanta has some great spots to eat, drink, and vibe with your friends. I like nature a lot so I don’t really go out .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to a lot of people. First and foremost , I dedicate it to God because he has guided me and blessed me. Second, my mom and husband because without their words of encouragement I wouldn’t be doing anything. Also, my mentors, Shanteria (PhotoReadyProds) and my cousin Eric, and all of my closest friends that supports non stop! Audi Ash is up next!
