We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Kincheloe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what do you attribute your success to?

As a small business owner, marketing your brand and yourself is a very important aspect to growing your business into being a successful endeavor. For my business my brand is Self Love and Friendship. I work with many women who are interested in doing boudoir shoots but don’t have the confidence to do so… until they come to me. I push self love and my number one job is to make my clients comfortable and to remind them of exactly how perfect they are! Because of how I conduct myself with my clients as this larger than life, hot mess express, call me anytime if you need to scream and cry, invite me to Christmas dinner photographer; my business has grown exponentially. When it comes to my brides, I tell every single one of them when they book me that I am not just their photographer. I am their sounding board, their coordinator, their best friend, their space holder… anything I need to be for them to make their special day perfect. By the time the big day comes around and passes most of my clients have become more like family and less like clients.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I like to think of my art as… experimental. With a more scientific brain like I have, I am always trying new angles, looking for new poses and playing with the lighting. I think my style sets me apart from other local photographers because I will literally hang from a staircase to get the shot I want. I will push the envelope to create something beautiful. I got to where I am on sheer will. I don’t quit. I don’t stop. I don’t slow down. Is it easy? Absolutely not. I am tired, but I am proud. There is no way I would be where I am now without the support of my husband, son and all of the friends and family that are constantly cheering me on. I have to give some special credit to Destini… she will be the first one to push and push and push me until I finish a task and then immediately tell me to go take a nap and rest. Reboot yourself and do some self care. I will love her forever for always being my space holder.

There are so many lessons I have learned along the way. A big lesson is to have all of your images backed up on a million different devices. Technology is great… until it’s not.

What do I want the world to know about me?…. You’re safe here. You’re loved here. It’s okay to be insecure and I will not make you feel less than the perfect muse you are.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If my best friend were to come visit I would take her to see some of our beautiful sights like Radium Springs Garden which used to be an old casino, after that I think we would go grab lunch at Corks which is a fine dining and charcuterie restaurant here in Albany. After that I would invite her to go kayaking in one of our many water ways. If she wanted to go check out some of our abandoned buildings I would immediately be on board, it would make for a great shoot!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I have a few people that I attribute my success to. Let’s start with my husband, Chris. He is always putting me and my career first and pushing me to be the best I can be. As far as he’s concerned I hung the moon and I couldn’t love him more. The support he gives is immeasurable. Our little boy is following in our footsteps with a love of photography and the arts and is always ready to do a little shoot with mommy.

Jessica Blanchard MSN/Ed, RN, she is who I affectionately call my “adultier” adult. Over the past almost 10 years she has been everything I needed her to be and more while guiding me through adulthood and instilling a solid moral compass in me. She has taught me a very important lesson when it comes to loving people. Love them where they’re at.

My most powerful professional mentor is Charlene Trickey out of Tallahassee, FL with Trickey Photography. She is a force to be reckoned with as well as being a multiple award winner and published photographer. I grew up with her in our local church and then booked her for my wedding needs, when I decided I wanted to jump into the field she was right there to hold my hand and guide me through the profession. Since the beginning of my career she has gone from professional mentor to one of my very best friends. Her family is my family and vis versa.

Another professional mentor of mine is Jennifer Maloney. She has a vast portfolio of professional photography experience as well as a guillotine sharp attitude to push you to be the very best you can. Jennifer was one of my teachers in college that rode me hard because she saw the potential. I will forever be grateful.

Erik Revills out of Savannah, GA with Erik Revills Photography is also a huge player in my professional life. We met at a local venue while I had a shoot going on as did he. I had forgotten an SD card and ran over to him, not knowing him from Adam. I asked him if I could buy an SD card from him, he smiled and handed me a card and said to pass it on to the next person. I added him on Facebook and he has been an insane help to me as he is always ready to give me advice on our software or lighting and scream from the rooftops when I show him an image he loves.
