We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted the freedom to be on my own terms as well as doing something that I love and profiting off of it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Jazzie in the Kitchen was officially started in 2021. However I had a love for cooking for quite some time now. During the pandemic I had more down time so I would cook almost every day. I taught myself so much during that time and began to do research about different ways to turn what was hobby into a business. What sets me apart from others is that I am a self taught chef. I discovered that cooking was a gift that came natural to me. It’s honestly therapeutic. Even after recognizing my gift, everyday I’m protecting my craft.

I am most proud and excited about seeing my business grow. It’s an outer body experience seeing the seed you planted grow right before your eyes. When starting a small business you don’t always have the budget to hire staff for everything that needs to be done. You have so many roles to juggle so being able to balance multiple roles while still learning the ins and outs is what I’m most proud of.

Getting to where I am today business-wise was not easy. It’s actually one of the most challenging things I’ve experienced. It’s so much to know and learn when starting and running a business. When people ask me how did I get where I am today, I tell them networking and research. Everywhere I go is a networking opportunity. Everyday I’m learning.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to always keep going. No matter what happens, you have to keep going. As an entrepreneur you will have slow days or even weeks where your phone won’t ring as much and you may not get any bookings but you can’t let that discourage you. That down time can be used to create more content, watch or attend more business seminars.

Another major lesson that I’ve learned is to not be afraid to invest in your business. You will really be surprised at the turn out. My mom always told me you have to spend money to make money. That’s always stuck with me.

I want the world to know that Jazzie in the Kitchen will be a house hold name. We have so much to offer from wedding catering, social event catering, corporate catering, meal prep, pop ups and more. We don’t just deliver and set up food, we provide a top tier catering experience.

As far as what I would like the world to know about myself is that I am goal driven & hard working. I always give 110%. If I say I want to do something, I’m going to figure out a way to get it done. I turned a hobby into a business and my only regret is that I wish I would have acted on my ideas earlier.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Here in Atlanta it’s always something to do ! Whether it’s museums, games, concerts, festivals or just a fun night out.

I am a pretty chill person but I like to get out every now and then. During a trip to Atlanta I would definitely visit places like Gocha’s breakfast bar, Breakfast At Barney’s and 5church for a good breakfast/brunch.

Some good lounges would be Pasha, Red Phone booth, The James Room, Octopus Bar, Trap city Cafe and of course boogalou

Other cool nice hang out spots would be the Painted Pin, Pin & proper, Ponce city market, The beltline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to S/o my family & close friends for the inspiration and support throughout the whole process. I would also would like to thank everyone who trusted me supported my business when I was just getting started. I’ll never forget my first customers/clients.
