We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Hubbard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless other Black lives that have left this earth due to racism, police brutality, and inequality. Events like these have inspired me to do my part in changing the narrative. Black women are the top women in our nation to obtain college degrees and to become entrepreneurs. Those are two of the ways the narrative can be changed for me as a Black woman. The world sees us as one way when we are so much more than that what is portrayed on tv and magazines. I am inspired by the Black woman who raised me, the Black women who are my sisters, the Black women who I call my friends, the Black women who have paved the way before me to achieve success in many aspects of life. When I say that I am my ancestors wildest dreams, not only do I want to say that, but I want to live that out also. I am more than my body, how many children I can bear, what a man views me, my career, etc. I am a woman of character, strength, and courage. I am inspired by the fact that I can help others choose a different story and that they have the power to change the narrative not only for themselves but for their family, their children, their grandchildren, and beyond.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in healthcare as a whole for almost seven years. I was a CNA for 2 of those years, and have been a Registered Nurse for almost 5 years. I have been a Travel Nurse for almost 3 of those 5 years. It has been a great ride for me professionally and personally and I have learned so much along the way. I have worked at many different hospitals, met some great people, and learned so much about myself and what I can handle. With the COVID-19 pandemic, traveling definitely has changed for me. I am working a local assignment right now about two hours away from where I live because I do not want to take the risk of losing out on money from an unforeseen cancellation of a contract. I definitely want to venture out again but for now, I am fine with working locally until the travel nurse industry gets more secure. I do plan to stop travel nursing hopefully at the end of 2021 but I would love to hit California, Texas, Washington state, and maybe Hawaii before I stop completely. My brand, Jazzy Travels, focuses on my journey as a travel nurse and my leisure travel experiences. I also highlight special guests and other colleagues in the nursing industry that are truly making waves and impacts not just in nursing, but in life. When I stop travel nursing, I know I will have to rebrand but until then, I am just going to enjoy the ride! I have looked into other ventures outside of nursing and I am truly excited about what my future will hold. Nursing has shaped me so much and I will always be grateful to this industry and what I have gained. Post COVID-19, I am looking forward to seeing what I will accomplish and pursue in the months and years to come.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I truly would not be where I am today without my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God sent His only Son down on Earth to save me and rescue me from the downfall of my sins. It truly amazes me the more I think about how He chose someone like me to love me despite my flaws and imperfections. I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my family: my parents (Ann and Jerry Hubbard ) and my two sisters (Jeanine Hubbard and Jade Hubbard). We are not a perfect family by any means (who is?) but they always support me in all that I do. No matter what it is whether I need their opinion on something, a new blog post that I have written, a vlog that I put out on my YouTube channel, they always support it. I never have to question it or beg for it. My family is truly one of a kind and EVERYTHING that I do, that I pursue, that I accomplish is always for them. I am changing the narrative not only for myself but also FOR THEM. I love all four of them with my whole heart and I honestly have to dedicate my shoutout to them. They each have a piece of me that can never be replaced by anyone or anything on this planet.
