We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Gill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe risks are a beneficial necessity when creating a start-up or running a business. Risks can be large or small but they’re something I face everyday. They can be scaring depending on what’s on the line while other times they’re minor but can still be beneficial or a waste. Being a vendor is big risk that I can take pretty often. After paying up front it’s uncertain whether I’ll make a profit from the event. Though nerve-wrecking at times, taking risks has played a large role in the success of my business. They’re things like paying for promos that are everyday risks and even shipping packages through USPS these days. Larger risks I’ve taken are vending in other states and opening a shop front. When it comes to taking risks I feel that it’s all about your faith. I have faith in my product and I’m very passionate about my product so to me a risk is like a trust fall. I’m showing myself that I trust in all of my hard work and my decisions.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I was very shy and timid. Also, sheltered for the majority of my younger years. When I began creating my jewelry it was my way of having a voice. I figured my jewelry would also speak for me even when I didn’t have the voice. Of course by this point I was ready to share my voice with the world. It was most exciting when people began to purchase and praise my creations. This is also the passion behind my business and the fuel. I refuse to be silent and shy so I put lots of time and dedication into each piece of I create. When I started my business on social media it was actually easy for me to gain interest at that time. My page gained a tiny bit of popularity and that fueled me on. Gaining and keeping the popularity is the on-going issue with social media. Though I feel any type of business owner will face that problem. I overcome this issue by staying vigilant. Content, schedules, research all play an important role.
Along the way I’ve learned that there will be bumps in the road, sometimes hurdles, but my determination and my faith have to remain resilient.
My brand is manifestation. It is a blessing and a responsibility that was given to me. To show my appreciation I make sure every creation is unique and of quality like royalty would wear. Each creation will make you stand out on any frequency.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visit the city the most important thing would be food. Midtown for breakfast, West End for lunch and East Atlanta for dinner. In between that we can do a little sight seeing, shopping in Little Five, hit Fernbank and slid down Ponce. Then we’re hitting bars and partying down Edgewood. For me Atlanta is most exciting when all types of people from so many walks of life get together in a happy unison. Just being in the city and experiencing the culture is the best part.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I would have to shout-out my daughter. She brought a level of maturity out of me that is very valuable. Secondly, I would shout-out the people that love and purchase my art. I’ve had people cheering me on since day one that have never met me. That’s the beauty of social media that I cherish. I would also shout out my parents and family that have continuously supported my dream.
