We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I first got into treat-making, I was a stay at home mom. I honestly had nothing going for myself. I did the typical stay at mom routine. You know, nothing exciting just the typical routine of cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids. However, one day I decided to make chocolate covered strawberries for my oldest daughter teacher. I had no clue on what I was doing and YouTube only helped me so much. I did it though! You’d think with me not knowing how to melt chocolate, let alone dip a strawberry that it would’ve frustrated me. It didn’t. It gave me peace and provided me with happiness. I loved the way it made me feel. It was like I didn’t have a care or worry in the world. It put me in a position as to where I wasn’t worried about my existing problems. The more I got to experience that peace, the more I attempted to make strawberries. I was just starting out so they weren’t the best looking strawberries but none of that mattered. I had the peace and happiness. Peace and happiness is would be the reason that I chose this creative career.

This journey hasn’t been easy at all. I’m known as the Strawberry Lady but I’m allergic to strawberries. Crazy, right? So when I’m making strawberries, I’m really taking a risk. I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles on this journey. I’ve received some good feedback and some not so good but it’s all apart of the process. One of the major lessons that I’ve learned is time management is everything. You want to make sure you’re planning, not overbooking, and overworking yourself. You can’t give the best version of you when you’re rushing. So I’ve definitely learned to plan my time a lot more effectively. I’m still learning and I have a long ways to go. I’m not a perfect business owner by any means but I give it my all. Goodies By Jasmine is my baby and I treat it as such.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from a very small town so there’s nothing much to do here. However, my family is dope and we loveee to eat. I have the absolute best cooks in my family! So we’re eating at my aunts, going to even more cookouts, and just enjoying each other’s company. Some people would think that’s boring but listen here we’re in the country and it’s all love here! You can never go wrong with family, home cooked meals, genuine love, and laughter!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Marci Dent deserves the most heartwarming dedication there is! She’s the one that taught me how to make candy apples. She gave me more than a recipe to candy apples. She gave me confidence. She showed me that it’s okay to share the spotlight, teach, and even be a leader. She’s so quiet with her work but loud at the same time. She’s amazing and I don’t think I’d be in this position if it wasn’t for her! Apples By Marci, LLC will always be the reason that Goodies By Jasmine, LLC exist! I’m forever grateful for her. Thank you Marci!
