We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There were several things that influenced me to start my own business. I am a natural caregiver and nurturer, and I knew I wanted to cater to and help women. I’ve been wearing hair extensions for over 27 years and I’ve tried a numerous number of companies. I found that there wasn’t just one company I could trust and purchase from again and again. I found it difficult to get both quality hair and the customer service I deserved. I came to the realization that the companies did not care about the woman or women who were purchasing from them, they could care less, the just wanted to make a buck off us wanting to enhance our beauty. That’s when I said I’ll start my own hair company. I’d provide a nurturing and caring environment around the whole company so that women know that we care about their self awareness, inner beauty as well as outer beauty.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Herstory Hair is a company whose goal is to nurture and create a beautiful self awareness from the inside out. We believe that beauty starts from within. Its not just a hair company, it is also a platform that serves as a supportive environment for women to aid each other with their growth by connecting and encouraging one another through sharing personal stories.
I would be telling a total lie if I said it was easy! I knew that it wouldn’t be after I saw how many manufacturers there were! So there were many trials and errors also many challenges. A few of them consist of finding great manufacturers, lack of financial resources, and building a dependable team. I overcame them by not giving up and taking my time to get the results I wanted. It takes time, hard work and dedication. It actually took way more time than I expected. This was not something that I could do in a day or a few months. It actually took me a whole year to build this company. I’ve had many launch dates before I was actually really ready.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
