We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmin Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success would have to be the ability to, believe in myself. For so long, I struggled with believing in myself, believing that I could become successful, believing I was equipped. My idea to start my business sat in my mind for years before I decided to just ” go for it” and it ended up being the best decision of my life. When you believe in yourself, when you believe in your brand, it shows. It’s true when they say ” love your brand and it will love you back”.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jaszy The Brand, strives to spread love, motivation, inspiration, and positivity through the comfort of hoodies with positive affirmations and sayings. The Brand is about creating the life you want to live, and believing in yourself.

One day in 2020, I woke up and had the idea to create a new business, I was working a job that no longer suited me and I wanted something different. At that moment, I had no idea what my brand was going to represent, I didn’t even know what items I wanted to sell but I stepped out on faith, and created Jaszy The Brand. and for exactly one month, I didn’t have an item to sell nor did I think much about the business. Then suddenly, in the middle of the night while thinking about my future, where I wanted to go, who I wanted to be and what I wanted my life to look like, I came up with my first item.

The visionary hoodie, “visionary – knowing you have the power to create your dream life.” I created the design, and I fell in love with it. It was a constant reminder, that the power was within me to get whatever it is I wanted out of life, it reminded me how powerful my words were and it reminded me to keep pushing because my time was coming. The next day, I called a friend turned sister who lived in Georgia, and I asked if she could produce the hoodie for me ( she had a printing business). She agreed, and I posted my first item on my Instagram page, and right before my eyes, everyone went crazy about it. They loved it. It’s important, to remember to do things and go into a business that suites you, one that will bring you happiness, one that represents you. People know when you love what you do….. they can feel it.

The last year and a half in business, I’ve learned that being surrounded by love, positivity, and the right people play a huge part in your success. Letting go of people, who serve no purpose in your life, are a must. If it wasn’t for the people in my corner, pushing me, constantly reminding me of my potential, I don’t know where I would be. I also learned, that everyday isn’t going to be sunny and that I cannot judge my success off the success of others. People online tend to make the business life look so easy, but there were many days I cried, many days I felt like giving up, but I had to keep the end goal in mind. It’s a bit of a cliche, but ” the storm doesn’t last forever and the sunny days do come.” I went from on a during non-peak months selling one item a day to selling over 60 items a day.

I overcame challenges by keeping the faith and believing in my business. You have to believe in your business, even when you’re getting 1 like, post it EVERYDAY. Stand behind your business, Promote yourself. Get apparel and rock your business. Believing in yourself and your brand is a key to success.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I would like to shoutout God, for being my strength when I didn’t want to be strong- for not allowing me to give up when things got hard. I would also like to thank Foram, (a manager from a former job ’13), I could honestly say if it wasn’t for her believing in me the way she did and pushing me to see what was within, then I would never be who I am today. She saw so much in me, which at the time I could not see in myself. I walked into that job, a server, shy, voiceless and to myself and when my tenure was over, I left a manager with new skills, a voice and a sense of who I truly had potential to become. And last but not least, I would like to thank my mother, grandmother, Samirra and Nana, for the endless amount of love, advice and support, they push me to new limits.
