We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmin Monay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmin, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In our society today, balance is not often looked at as the sexy thing to do, especially for entrepreneurs. You often hear the phrases ” Get the bag sis”, “Hustle hard”, or “Sleep when you die.” The sad part is that so many people have played into that mindset, and burn becomes quickly evident. We drench ourselves in a number of task, to do list, and multiple income strategies, versus focusing on the one thing God has given us to do.
There is ABSOLUTELY no shade in this, as I found myself simply “keeping busy”, for the sake of a title, feeling important, or to hear someone say, “Wow, you’re doing a lot, how do you do it?” I believe the lack of balance can truly be a sense of validation one may be seeking or the idea of just wanting to be busy. The problems arose when I was trying to give all of myself to everything and everyone, which left me depleted.
In all honesty, I don’t think balance is possible. I’m a firm believer in doing what God called me to do in not just the beauty industry, but every day life. I allow him to lead me in the calling of leading women in the fields of beauty, relationships, and the word. The beauty in operating in your calling, is there are multiple areas in can use you. It doesn’t have to be a specified arena or specific job.
Balance for me is literally being in position to impact women across the world, while understanding I can’t give from an empty cup. It’s keeping my peace priority and learning that “No” is an anointed word.
Balance is leaning and depending on my heavenly father, and admitting I need help from my circle.
No one can do life alone, and when I feel myself becoming an island, I quickly reach out to my lifeline.
What should our readers know about your business?
Truth be told I’ve always said I was going to own a salon one day. I initially didn’t want to work as a licensed stylist; simply own it. However my love for creating was a passion I couldn’t deny. Of course, God opened doors to take my small dream to a greater level. Operating not only a salon but hair loss spa is incredible. We give not just a hair style, but an experience. Salon XXIX Eleven is where hair meets luxury and oasis infused in one. Women and men are able to receive the best treatment for their hair and their minds, with a get away from every day life. Here we laugh, we cry, we indulge in wellness across the board.
Transformation Hair Loss and Wellness Spa is where we get down to the root of the problem and restore the crown God gave you. Hair loss is an epidemic that is plaguing the world, especially in the African American community. To have the privlege of bringing a solution to the problem and elevating someone’s hopes into reality is simply incredible.
I’ve learned that every head of hair and every person that sits in our chair may be different, but they all desire the same thing. To be seen, to be heard, to be loved. Hair goes beyond the next hot look and instagram selfie. It’s a way of life.
Our brand is one that yields to the every day man and woman who is yearning to take their hair and wellness to the next level. Who desires a consistent professionalism and customer service. Who never has to wander what they will receive in the beauty industry, because here it’s more than just hair, it’s an Experience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve always been a foodie. I love the taste of food and the experience I get while there. The day would commence with a visit to the spa to really open up our pores and release tension. This would be followed by Brunch in the city, a few mimosas to really get the day going. We would follow that up with a day party, especillay since the city is starting to open up again, and end the night at a rooftop lounge overlooking the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success is never my own. It stems from the grace God gives me daily, and his strength being made perfect in my weakness. Success can be traced back to an amazing upbringing from parents who challenge and love me unconditionally. A sister who keeps me focused. A fiancé who challenges me to be better, and a circle of “framily” (friends who have become family) that pours into me.
