We had the good fortune of connecting with Ja’Shaundria Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ja’Shaundria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have taken risks in business, career, and personal life such as choosing a college, buying new equipment, releasing new products, finding new vendors, and etc. Sometimes it’s best to take risks in order to grow your business or yourself. Risks is how you learn. If you don’t take risks, you are not trying to grow. Taking risks is putting yourself out there and not knowing what your outcome will be but at least you tried something different. It may work out and other times you may have to go to back to drawing board and regroup.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started Imonogrambyjayy, LLC in 2016 as a hobby. I always dreamed of starting my own business. I always knew I wanted to be a graphic designer. In high school, I was in the graphic design program. I decided to go to college to further my love for the arts. I am a recent graduate of the University of South Alabama Graphic Design program. I graduated with Cum Laude Honors. I am currently a graduate student at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta. I am enrolled in the MFA in Advertising Design program. In May 2021, I decided to turn my hobby into a full-time business. I love helping people with creating a brand and marketing their business. I have designed flyers, logos, ebooks, websites, business cards, shirts, truck wraps, and more for many clients.
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles was time. In undergrad, I didn’t have a lot of time to create physical items but I did a lot of graphic design work. Time management has helped me complete all orders that have come my way.
I specialize in graphic design, marketing, monogramming, and more. I’m most proud of being a full-time grad student while running a full-time business. I am proud of how determined I am to create a brand that people will remember. What sets me apart from others is that I actually design and create everything in-house myself—it’s really customized!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to visit my school Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) museum. We would walk around the downtown area and stop by Atlantic Station. One of those days we would visit The Hive for brunch and The Linnethia for dinner. Both have great food, great vibes, and just overall a great experience. Two other fun places we would visit is the Georgia Aquarium and Candytopia.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family. My family is very supportive of my dreams. They have pushed me beyond measures. They have helped me grow. Special shoutout to my mom, without her I wouldn’t be here or have my business. She bought my first machine and supplies. and continues to encourage and support me.
