Meet Jarvis Vontrell | Rapper & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarvis Vontrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarvis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It chose me. I wanted this as much as a kid decides early on that they’re going to be a doctor or a fireman. I pursue it because it’s what speaks to me. Being involved in the culture, helping to keep it alive, and etching out new pathways for it is what matters.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Authenticity comes first. Without it my art is nothing more or less than the next man’s. I’ve got an ego so I always want to be the best I can be as far as rap goes and that’s what sets me apart. The will to be myself at all times and the drive to make it happen time and time again. That’s what I am most proud of. The fact that I can do what I can do and not compromise who or what I am. I’m still far from what I define as successful but my strides to get to where I am today are nothing shy of years of effort and continuing to pursue deeper parts of my psyche, my heart. The only challenging part of this can be finding that inspiration to create, but once I have it and know what I’m trying to do, that’s it! I’ve learned to be more patient both with the world and myself. I can be my biggest critic all the time, but without grace I can’t be at peace, forget putting together music. I want the world to know that I’m a regular guy. I just so happen to be very self-aware and creative and can articulate the stories that we all can relate to and that we all have gone through to some extent or another.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
lol man I don’t go out much so sorry best friend but we are in the house most of the trip. I mean it’s Warner Robins and Perry. If you know you know.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve got 2 good friends, really more like family, that have helped shape me in 2 different parts of my life. My boy Evan helped bring me out of my shell and showed me that I don’t have to be the timid guy I was before back in school. Without that I don’t know that I’d have the courage to try things and explore like I do today. My other friend Tyler helped to challenge my ego and perspective in a way that I had never experienced before, and it was frustrating at first, but it was necessary. It forced me to open up more of myself emotionally and mentally, which not only made me a better writer but just a better human. So thank you both, my brothers.
