We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarvis Francis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jarvis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love fitness and have a background in wellness/health as a licensed pharmacist– And I ultimately want to help and support people. So I decided last year, why not start a fitness and supplement company that people can truly trust to help them achieve their fitness and health goals. As a black-owned business based in Atlanta, I especially want to help Black and Brown Americans take charge of their health/fitness. It’s something I’m deeply passionate about and it’s important to me to support and educate the Black community to achieve optimal brain and physical health.

What should our readers know about your business?
Earlier this year, I developed and launched Nickel’s Nutrition (www.NickelsNutrition.com), a premium supplement, fitness & nutrition company on a mission to help 10 Million people take charge of their health and fitness with the support of our premium, ethically-sourced & all-natural supplements combined with science-backed, customized fitness and health programs.

I have always believed that health is wealth– Great nutrition isn’t just something we practice at Nickel’s Nutrition, it’s a lifestyle that we live and breathe every day and we want to share it with the world. Fitness and optimal nutrition are at the heart of our company and we want to share that with the world. As a Doctor of Pharmacy, I want to use my knowledge to help Americans take hold of their health, wellness and fitness. Right now, we are working with clients to provide customized meal and fitness workout plans combined with our top supplements. From lean whey protein to pre-workout power blend that can help clients maximize their workouts. We also sell plant-based fat burning and focus supplements to support overall fitness and mental wellness goals. We also recently just launched a Nickel’s Nutrition fitness apparel line, with lots of more product launches coming in 2023. I’ve invested a lot of my own capital and time into this business and want to take it all the way while helping others be their healthiest selves. As a new wellness/health startup, there are always bumps in the road and growing pains, but it’s an exciting journey that I’m fully committed to.

It’s my belief that no one in the U.S. should suffer from hypertension or diabetes- With a healthy diet, proper nutrition and supplements and regular exercise and motivational support, these diseases can be eliminated. The facts remain clear: Obesity in the United States has become a national health crisis resulting in millions of Americans facing preventable diseases, including an increase in certain types of cancer, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease, as well as significant increases in early mortality and added economic healthcare costs. And this data is even more stark for Black and Brown/PoC communities across the U.S. Clearly we have a health problem, especially post the COVID-19 pandemic, and Nickel’s Nutrition is on a mission to change this trajectory while additionally hyper-focusing on improving the health inequities affecting Black and Brown communities in the U.S.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big sports fan so any baseball or basketball game at Truist Park and the State Farm Arena are always top of my list for food and entertainment. Some of my friends who run DaySnatchers here in Atlanta also throw epic parties and social events throughout the year– Would always recommend checking them out for local events: https://www.instagram.com/daysnatchers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Florida A&M University educated me and helped raise me— college laid a great foundation for me to become a successful licensed practicing pharmacist and ultimately go on to work as an executive in the health/wellness/pharmaceutical industry. From my College of Pharmacy professors, to my life-long friends, FAMU has been the institution that has provided me guidance, support, mentorship, tough love, encouragement and life long friends and colleagues. In addition, my parents have always been so supportive and laid the foundation for me to reach all of my professional goals– I am forever indebted to them. And finally, everything I do is for my daughter, Tai. She’s my world and every good thing I do will always be for her.
