Meet Jana’ Byrd | Fashion Designer & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jana’ Byrd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jana’, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a fashion designer, I have always been drawn to the world of fashion and the endless possibilities it holds for self-expression and creativity. From a young age, I was captivated by the intricate designs and bold colors of the clothing and accessories that surrounded me. As I grew older, this fascination only intensified, and I began to dream of one day making my own contributions to the fashion world. There are many reasons why I decided to pursue a career as a fashion designer, but perhaps the most compelling is my love for the creative process. As a designer, I have the opportunity to conceptualize and bring to life my own unique ideas, using a range of materials and techniques to create pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind. I find great satisfaction in the process of taking an idea from conception to completion, and I am constantly inspired by the endless possibilities that fashion offers.
In addition to my love of creativity, I also have a strong interest in the technical aspects of fashion design. From understanding how to drape and cut fabric to learning about different sewing techniques and construction methods, I have always been fascinated by the mechanics of fashion. As a designer, I am constantly learning and growing, and I find great enjoyment in the challenge of creating new and innovative pieces that push the boundaries of traditional fashion.
I believe that fashion has the power to make a real difference in people’s lives. Whether it’s through the confidence and self-expression that a well-designed outfit can bring, or the way that fashion can be used to raise awareness for social and environmental issues, I believe that my work as a fashion designer has the potential to make a positive impact on the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am highly creative and constantly seeking out new and innovative ways to design and create fashion pieces. I am not afraid to think outside of the box and push the boundaries of traditional fashion design, and this allows me to come up with truly original and standout pieces. In addition to my creativity, I also have a strong understanding of garment construction and am proficient in various design software programs. This allows me to not only create beautiful designs, but also ensure that they are functional and can be produced efficiently.

As a successful fashion designer, my dedication and love for my craft have played a crucial role in my journey to success.
From a young age, I have always had a passion for fashion design and have been driven to constantly learn and improve my skills. I have spent countless hours researching new trends and techniques, and have always been eager to try out new ideas and push the boundaries of traditional fashion design. This dedication and drive has allowed me to constantly grow and evolve as a designer, and has helped me to create truly innovative and unique pieces.

I am incredibly proud to have had the opportunity to work with Angie Thomas, a highly talented and respected author in the literary world.
Working with Angie has been an absolute pleasure and has truly been a highlight of my career. She is an incredibly kind and down-to-earth person, and it has been a joy to collaborate with her on various fashion projects. It has been an honor to work with her and help bring her ideas to fruition!

Being a fashion designer is not an easy job. It is a competitive and fast-paced industry that requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and passion. However, despite the challenges and setbacks that inevitably come with pursuing a career in fashion design, I am confident that my will and drive for success will ensure that I make it big.
One of the biggest challenges of being a fashion designer is the constant need to innovate and create new and unique pieces. The fashion industry is constantly changing and evolving, and it can be difficult to stay ahead of the game and come up with fresh and original ideas. However, my passion and love for fashion design keeps me motivated and drives me to constantly improve and push the boundaries of traditional fashion design.
Another challenge of being a fashion designer is the competitive nature of the industry. There are countless talented and skilled designers out there, and it can be tough to stand out and get noticed. However, I am determined to succeed and am willing to put in the hard work and dedication needed to make it in the industry. I am constantly seeking out new opportunities and working to improve my skills and understanding of the technical aspects of fashion design, and I believe that this drive and determination will ultimately help me to succeed.

I want the world to know that my story as a fashion designer is very far from over and that I am determined to make a big impact in the industry. I am confident that my hard work and dedication, combined with my passion and creativity, will help me to achieve my dreams and to make my name and my garments known worldwide.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend were in town for a week, I would for sure have us a jam packed itenerary to adhere to! I am all about excitement and adventure! My boyfriend is the best promoter in he city and The Best Promoter Alive, so we’d be in the hottest clubs in ATL for sure! We’re going to Revel, Suite Lounge, Traffik! That’s just our night moves though. During the day we’re going to see what the city really has to offer. I love fine dining here in ATL, maybe end lunch with a spin around Skyview ATL.

On of my favorite things to do here is to hit The Battery. I absolutely love The Battery. There are such good eats, bars, so many people, & it’s just such a great time overall; especially durin baseball season!

Needless to say there is so much to do in the city, and so much more that I’d like to do. I want to try he indoor skydiving facility right outside of The Battery, a helicopter ride around the city, even try the Porsche Experience! I am just a very all-around adventurous person. I love to have fun and I love to try new things. So me and my bestie, oh we’d be all over the city!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Starting and running a business can be a challenging and overwhelming endeavor, but having a supportive network of loved ones can make all the difference. For me, my boyfriend (Carter Moorer), my bestfriend (Mariah Mitchell) and my mom (Rosalind Byrd) have been my biggest supporter in my business journey and have played a crucial role in my success. They have been an invaluable source of love, encouragement, and motivation in my life. From the beginning, they have all always encouraged me to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams and have offered their unwavering support every step of the way. Whether it’s providing a listening ear when I need to vent about the challenges of running my business or offering practical advice and guidance. My boyfriend, for example, has helped me with everything from creating business plans to even purchasing materials and equipment that I need. My mom has pitched in with tasks such as website design and technical help reguarding pattern making. My bestfriend has helped me with the maintenance of my social media platforms, and coming up with ideas to garner more views which in turn lead to sales.

But perhaps most importantly, they have always believed in me and my business. Even when things were tough and I was doubting myself, they were always there to remind me of my strengths and the value that my business brings to the world. Their belief in me has given me the confidence and motivation to keep going, even when things were tough. One of the things that I love most about Carter is his unwavering faith in my abilities. No matter how difficult a situation may seem, he always believes in me and encourages me to keep going.

Carter, Mariah, and my mom have been my biggest supporters in my business journey and I am forever grateful for their love and support. Even past the three of them, I have an incredible support system that include many friends and other family members as well, who all believe in me to the fullest extent. Without their encouragement, guidance, and belief in me, I don’t know where I would be today or where I would be going tomorrow. I am so lucky to have such a supportive network of loved ones in my life and I am grateful for all that they do for me and my business.
