We had the good fortune of connecting with Jan Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

I’m at a stage in my life where I’m taking many risks to get to my purpose. It takes an extreme amount of courage for me to quell my fears and take risks, but I’ve found so much success on the other side of it. When I feel uncomfortable it means I’m being stretched and enriched, so I lean into it now. I process risk-taking completely differently today, and it has made a huge difference when managing the Bella Grind Brand. I’ve been able to accomplish a lot in a year because I bet on myself and put myself out there. Many opportunities have been presented to me, and I’m taking full advantage of them. I’m in spaces that I never thought I would occupy and growing my network exponentially.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am Jan Jackson, founder and creative director of the Bella Grind Brand. I own a media and fashion platform that elevates the voices and styles of black women. Through my podcast and magazine publication, I share their stories of resilience and power with my community of followers. The BG Collection by Bella Grind allows me to create fashion that empowers and celebrates black women and the culture. I am most proud of my company and brand because I have created a space to acknowledge the power, beauty, and joy of black women. The journey to building a reputable company has not always been easy, but I’ve learned so much about myself. I’ve acquired invaluable skill sets and knowledge that have made me a better leader and advocate. If you are a black woman or someone who loves and cares for a black woman, then the Bella Grind platform is for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week-long trip in Atlanta would include restaurants and bar crawls at some of Atlanta’s finest black-owned restaurants like Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours, Negril ATL, and Slutty Vegan. We’d also get some rooftop action at the Beverly and Suite Food Lounge. We’d take a day to go right outside of Atlanta to spend some time on Lake Allatoona for white water rafting or yachting. We’d certainly go to Six Flags over Georgia so we could be kids again! Can’t spend a week in Atlanta without doing some retail therapy, so we’d go to some of my favorite boutiques such as Arelia’s Dream Showroom, Dani Jay’s Showroom, and Rose Couture. We would also swing by some of my favorite pop-up shops like the Atlanta Influences Everything Store and Dope Stories Clothing. Lastly, we’d do the Black Girl Magic Tours for a luxury mural crawl for brown girls.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shout-out to my family, my life coach and mentor, and my best friends. They are my core group of supporters who consistently elevate me, celebrate me, and encourage me to be my best self.
