Meet JAMIKO STRICKLAND | Chief Executive Officer

We had the good fortune of connecting with JAMIKO STRICKLAND and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JAMIKO, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business started years prior before I formulated it as a business. Being raised by my grandparents after the untimely death of my mother, I struggled with acne from an early age. My grandmother used home remedies for my hair as well as my skin. Oils such as tea tree oil, castor oil, and olive oil have been natural substances used while growing up. On mother’s day in 2020 to honor my mother (Mary) and grandmother (Ida) I created the brand MaryIda Skincare.

What should our readers know about your business?
The ability to set a goal of opening a business, doing research, speaking with others in the industry, and actually putting forth all you learn in the middle of a pandemic has been an amazing feeling. It was not easy and I am still learning as I go. I push myself daily to improve my brand to produce better products for all my consumers’ needs. To overcome any challenges, I always pray. Prayer is a huge part of my business. I pray over my business several times a day. There are so many lessons that have been learned throughout the process, but one that sticks with me is to remain consistent. I know a lot of people talk about being consistent, but I am here to tell you where focus goes consistency will flow. I will like the world to know that MaryIda Skincare products are for better hair and skin. If you are battling with dark spots, acne, hyperpigmentation, hair loss, or dryness of the scalp, we have products that are geared to help.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I leave in the Alpharetta area and really don’t visit the city often. But I am a huge sports fan therefore we will attend a Falcon/Braves/Hawks game. I love Pappadeux Seafood and Southern Fire Kitchen therefore we would definitely eat there. I love to shop so attending the Perimeter Mall, Avalon, and Lenox Mall will be on the list.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I always credit my grandparents Leon and Ida Strickland, both deceased, but their ultimate sacrifice to my siblings and me is something that I will forever be indebted with. After the untimely death of my mother at the age of eight, my grandparents took on the role of rising five more children with me being the oldest. I never heard them complain not one day, even with their limitation.
