We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie DuBose-Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance: What exactly does this mean? To me the definition of work life balance is maintaining your sanity while working, having a family and sustaining moments of self-care.

During the hours of 9-5, Monday-Friday I am a Regional Operations Manager for a radiology company in the Northeast. So it is safe to say that my day job is extremely demanding and somehow manages to insert itself where it isn’t welcome. For years I struggled with separating work and home.

It wasn’t until I decided to become an entrepreneur that I realized that boundaries needed to be set. Not only with work but home as well. As women we spread ourselves so thin that often times we are the forgotten ones. I was under the impression that I had everything under control until I didn’t. The struggle was working then coming home, having to give my daughter time then carve out a spec of time for my husband and at the end of every evening I was essentially depleted.

JLD Lifestyle LLC is my baby and gave me everything I needed to create a space for myself. I am a nurturer by birth and it gives me joy to give and help others. Self-care means putting the right things into your body to ensure a healthy existence.

Maintaining the balance is work. This took me years to figure it out. Every day there are different obstacles that present themselves. Obstacles meant to deviate you off of your path. But with willpower and determination you can do anything. It is imperative that I continue to build on my own space. I have to take care of myself if I want my family to be great. And GREAT they will be.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JLD Lifestyle LLC is a brand in itself. We provide an array of products that cater to your everyday wants and needs.

Our elixirs provide your body with the protection it needs from the illnesses plaguing our world today. Some of the known results are: mucus relief, cold and flu fighter, anti-inflammatory properties.

Our herbal teas and some of the best you’ve ever tasted. Not only do they provide you with a sense of warmness while ingesting but they have fighting properties as well. Relaxing, anxiety relief, cold and flu fighters, etc.

These are just a few of our products that we have and I’m sure there will be introductions of new deliciousness coming soon.

Starting the business wasn’t easy at all. I never wanted to be an entrepreneur. JLD Lifestyle literally happened overnight. It was tough, the unknown always took up massive amounts of space in my mind. Would people have faith in me? Can I really do this? These are some questions that I asked myself and still ask on a daily basis.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in the TriState area has its benefits. We can literally go anywhere.

For breakfast we would go to Brownstone pancake factory in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. They have thee best pancakes ever and the Vanilla Dream Coffee is to die for.

During the day we can travel up to Norwalk, CT and enjoy a day at the beach. The beaches in CT are beautiful. I love going to sit beachside with a good book.

Heading back into the city for a concert or comedy show at Barclays in the evening. Barclays is an experience in itself.

Dinner would have to be at Ricardo’s in Harlem because it’s just a vibe
