We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Above all, I wanted to have meaningful work and a positive impact on those I work with. I also intended to do something that I am passionate about. I have always been interested in holistic and sustainable wellness. I am thrilled that I am able to turn my passion into a career as a Health and Wellness Coach.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Board Certified Health Coach I work as a collaborative partner with retired and soon to be retired individuals as they identify and get clarity on their ideal version of life during retirement. Some clients want to travel, spend time with family, learn a new skill, focus on health, or simply take it easy and savor a slower pace of life. This includes acquiring and maintaining a level of health and wellness that empowers clients to live toward their fullest potential. It involves developing lifestyle habits and routines that support the prevention and/or management of chronic illness and disease such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity just to name a few. I am fortunate to be able to serve and empower others to feel confident in their bodies and promote wellness during the “golden” years of life.
My mother passed away a few weeks shy of turning 55 and a few years later my father passed away at the age of 60. They were both retired and looking forward to starting their “golden years” early, but unfortunately died prematurely from avoidable chronic illnesses. Prior to their deaths, I was unaware of the overwhelming number of Americans that die every year from preventable diseases. According to the CDC, nearly 900,000 Americans die prematurely each year and 20-40 percent of these deaths could be prevented with lifestyle change and adopting healthy habits. This is when I became dedicated to understanding wellness and it’s correlation to lifestyle.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I tend to take my friends on outdoor adventures if given the opportunity, With that said, we would shoot the Hooch also known as floating down the Chattahoochee River in an innertube. I would take them to Stone Mountain where we could hike to the top of the mountain and see Atlanta from an elevated perspective. I also have to add Atlanta Botanical Garden to the list and at Christmas it would be the top priority. As for food, I really enjoy The Select in Sandy Springs. Complete with delicious food, a fun atmosphere, and outdoor seating. The Loving Hut restaurant would also make the cut. Mainly because they have a curry soup that I frequently crave. It is a vegan restaurant but has always satisfied my meat loving friends with their dishes. They too, have a great patio for dining. I would also take them to enjoy Food Truck Thursdays at Brookrun Park. They have many trucks to choose from and are always mixing it up with a great selection. It’s ideal for a casual meal especially if kids are in the mix.
Last but not least, we’d go to a Braves game for some good wholesome fun!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my loving husband, Joshua. He gives his support in abundance and always encourages me to follow my dreams. Thanks, babe!
I also want to give a shoutout to Dr. Joe Dispenza, the author of “Becoming Supernatural”. This book is grounded with data and research effectively explaining how the human body is designed to heal itself and is exceptionally empowering.
