We had the good fortune of connecting with James Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’ve been taking risk for years now and without doing so I wouldn’t be where I am today. In order to reach new heights taking risk, & being extremely uncomfortable is just apart of the process. Taking a risk led to one of our biggest decisions which was leaving our home town to move here to Atlanta. We want the world for our families but we wouldn’t be able to provide that for them being stuck in a small town with no opportunities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a story teller by heart and that’s the goal every time I’m creating. I don’t want people to just see a “good picture” I want them to feel the moment as well & also feel as if they were apart of that moment too. Life is precious and it’s also short but the beautiful souls I capture through my art will live on forever. Art is my peace/escape from the world. I most proud of finding myself again and rediscovering my love for art. I’m also excited hosting my first solo exhibit this year. This will showcase a side I’ve been holding back for years. Krave stands for (k)eep (R)ising (A)nd (V)isioning (E)veryday on top of my story telling this is what I want the world to feel. Being a successful creative if far from easy and what got me here is chasing the passion not the money. Along this journey I had to realize you can’t bring every one with you, you can’t fully receive what god has in store for you with the wrong people around, patience is everything, you have to give self grace, you can’t expect anyone to understand why you’re going so hard over a vision nobody can see but you no matter how hard you try to break it down, don’t expect you out of anyone, I cant do this alone, & to never dim my light for anyone ever again. It’s always been me vs me. True change starts with self. With that being said I don’t really pay attention to what others have going on. I know my answers are all over forgive me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
lol my friends know to already have their own plans if it doesn’t include anything away from the city. I like the outdoors/ random adventures in nature. I’m not really a social person but I’m working on it for sure. I’ve also been on a sober journey so I don’t drink anymore. For how long? I can’t answer that. The best cooking in the city is at my house.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God for blessing me with life and these talents, my loving/ number supporting wife Sydnee Floyd , my family, my peers, my brother/ mentor Jeremy bell (JB) & the whole film family, Tatiyana blood, dr jami McCoy, & Denise baumann. They have all played a major part in my life/professional journey. Words can’t even express how much I truly appreciate each and every one of them.
