Meet James Aka Swagg | Owner Swagg Kitchen Catering and founder of Swagg’s Green Ribbon Project

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Aka Swagg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James Aka Swagg, is there something you believe many others might not?
Being I try to wear so many hats, I get told that “A jack of all trades is a master of none” but after hearing the entire saying “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one” I realized that with some people they can’t see your vision how you see it. So limiting yourself and skill to suit their inability to see your path isn’t going to work or make you happy. Validation is only a key to success when you look for it within first and foremost.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and operator of Swagg Kitchen Catering. One of the worst times of my life I had no clue what I was going to do but I was also hungry. And being I never really cooked because others always fed me. My first meal I made myself off Pinterest sparked a flame in me. That meal turned out exactly like the picture off the e recipe. Which then gave me not only the confidence but the will to try again. And plate by plate my confidence grew to now wanting to hurt myself. I’ve cooked for several people and even had people ask me for recipes. That alone has been the driving force to battling my mental illness. And that feeling gave me the want to help kids who battle this same thing with no one to care until it’s too late. That’s why I started Swaggs Green Ribbon Project. A nonprofit set to help kids not only recognize mental illness, cope with changing things that seem scary, and building there confidence one plate at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well besides me actually cooking for them lol it depends because Atlanta have so many hidden gems when it comes to food and entertainment. It can be anything like Fat Matt’s Bbq downtown Atlanta when it comes to BBQ that’s my favorite so far.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Being diagnosed with clinical depression at 8, I’ve over the years have lost and gain a lot of friends. Those I’ve gained are the ones who’s seen my up and down moments and stood there while I battled the rain and storm and stayed around. They don’t weaponize my feelings or they don’t use my weaknesses to lash out on social media to make me look bad to others. So there’s about a group of 5 I can count on.
