We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamelle Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to own my own business since I was a kid, I was never a conventional thinker so to speak. I’d rather work 100 hours a week on my own goals rather than working 40 hours a week on someone else’s goals. Of course the process was scary at times but my drive was even stronger. During the pandemic I ended up losing my job I was scared to leave in the fear of failing at owning my own business. But that was the push I needed and never punched someone else’s clock again. I felt like it was time that I really put my artistic abilities to good use and really get my name out here in Atlanta. Losing my job was very stressful because I was finally breaking away from that conditioned lifestyle I was used to living. I stepped out on faith and it was the best decisi0n of m life! As soon as I was able to put all my time into my business everything really fell into place. Dont be afraid to take that step for your future!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been tattooing for 8 years now but I’ve had a passion for drawing all of my life. I specialize in black and grey realism. I do some color work as well. When I’m not tattooing I’m out in public networking. I’m a self-taught artist and that is what makes me the most proud. I literally bought a tattoo machine off of Amazon and taught myself how to tattoo by watching YouTube. When I first started tattooing, I still held a full-time job working at call center and I tattooed part-time. I was exhausted but I knew I had to make time for what was really important to me; owning my own shop. These past couple of years I’ve really learned self discipline and drive.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Roof at Ponce City Market is one of my favorite places. It’s a great place for a fun, romantic date with your partner, but it is also family friendly for the kids as well. They offer different food booths, drinks, and small carnival games. The drinks are really good. You could really spend hours there, and also Atlantic Station.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I’d like to thank God and my mother Nicko Peace for giving me the strength to keep going everyday. My clients deserve an endless amount of recognition because without them as well I wouldn’t have been so lucky to branch out and start my own business so suddenly.
