Meet Jameka Martin | Candle Maker & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameka Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jameka, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew starting my business would require commitment, dedication, and sacrifices. Therefore, I wanted to do something that would give me a sense of personal satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment as I built my business. Candle making was the business that made perfect sense for me. I can make products that would enhance another person‘s life and lifestyle. Even before I started my business, I was making candles as a form of therapy for myself. I knew this business would be worth the time and effort that was required.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love candle-making and when you love what you do, you’re willing to put in time to perfect your craft. I would not say the journey has been easy, but it’s been well worth it. When I first started, there were challenges as far as product testing and learning about best possible ways to ship my products. Once I learned those things, it got easier. I also took a dessert candle making class to perfect my craft. I would advise anyone in any business to invest the money or time to learn more about your craft. I am most excited about the new products I have launching in the fall. I am also participating in more popup shops this year. Our goal is to have our products in as many consumers homes as possible.
I would like the world to know that any thing is possible. I know it sounds generic but it really is. I never thought or even wanted to run a business in the earlier part of my life. But now I couldn’t see my life any other way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start with drinks in the city at the Playa Pig. After that we go to the Painted Pin for some games. Afterwards we could end the night at Kevin Rathbun for some great food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my husband, Jamarvis Brooks. He is my biggest supporter in this business. My three children, Taylor, Jamison & Jia and My Mom Earnestine Martin
