Meet Jamar Blackmon | Motivational Speaker/Author/Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamar Blackmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamar, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I feel them 3 words coming… I’m EXCITED!!! YEAH!!! I’m from the inner city of Akron, Ohio. Being raised by a single mother and seeing her hustle and struggle was a big influence on me. It inspired me to want to be successful! I can see her now crying looking at these white envelopes. My first thought was who is this guy making my beautiful mother cry? I’m a beat him up!! She goes into the other room, I sneak and see what she’s looking at and it was bills. Only way you can beat up bills is with money. I was 9 years old, ever since that day I wanted to be rich so my mom wouldn’t have to cry from being overwhelmed with bills. I seen my father twice in my life. When I was 9 and 27. 9 he was alive, 27 he was dead. Today I’m married and have 4 kids. They will never experience not having a father.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I feel them 3 words coming… I’m EXCITED!!! YEAH!!! I’m a Motivational Speaker/Motivational Brand! My logo GOALGETTA sums up my message. One finger to the brain, the other pointing to the sky! With the right MINDSET you can go to the top! I put the red check next to the brain because everything starts with the mind and it’s going to take blood, sweat and tears to achieve some goals! You’re a GOALGETTA! I’m a GOALGETTA! SUCCESS IS THE ONLY OPTION!!! I operate my speaking business under JAMAR BLACKMON INSPIRES LLC. I’m also the CEO of GOALGETTA ACADEMY, a 501c3 organization who targets at risk youth. CEO of GOALGETTA APPAREL motivational clothing line and GOALGETTA PODCAST WITH J BLACK. I make motivational speaking albums and I’m an author and certified personal trainer. I’ve been all in since 2018. September 30 2017 I was fired from a supervisor position and that lit a fire in me that’s still burning! I’ve been the provider for my family for 11 years. That same year my wife was diagnosed with MS. Stress leads to a relapse. Not knowing how we were going to survive when I was fired led to my wife having a relapse. When this happens she loses her sight and feeling in her legs. Things were tough for a while. I had to swallow my pride and ask my wife’s grandmother for financial assistance when I seen my kids looking in the refrigerator and it was empty! I believe every test leads to a testimony as long as you don’t give up! Everything started with me posting motivational videos online. That led to schools reaching out for speaking engagements! That’s my target but I’ve done corporate and community events as well. A big highlight was being selected out of thousands of applicants for Akron University’s Black Male Summit in 2019. I’ve been featured in various newspaper articles for speaking and my work in the community. I spoke at LeBron James I Promise school 3 months after it opened and been back a few times. Being consistent and investing in my craft has opened doors for me. In the inner city we’re told in order for us to attain success we have to be a drug dealer, entertainer, or an athlete. I told my mentoring program in the middle of 2019 that I’ll give them 10,000 each when I become a millionaire. The goal is to show them you can think outside of the box and become successful! They’re watching my growth as a motivational brand and it’s important for them to see the process! My goal is to inspire people to become the best version of themselves! The GOALGETTA mentality is we don’t believe in failure! SUCCESS IS THE ONLY OPTION!!! We either win or learn! On a mission to change the world!!! Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to my guy’s restaurant Putty’s Kitchen! The bully gang and strawberry wangs are delicious! We’d play pool, bowl at Spins Bowl Akron.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I want to thank God for the gifts and vision he has given me! I want to thank my beautiful mother for always having my back and for the sacrifices she made to make sure I had what I needed growing up. I also want to thank my life partner!
