We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamaica Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamaica, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
By the end of my career professionally I am hoping to be able to do a lot of decorations and events for charities and those who can’t really afford an extravagant party at no cost to them. I believe that everyone deserves to be celebrated and my goal is at least once a month to be able to give a child, someone who is disabled, someone struggling to make ends meet the celebration they have dreamed of.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have always loved decorating. I would decorate events and parties for my family and friends. However it was more of a hobby, my main career was in law enforcement. In 2019 I was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure and due to that I had to take an unpaid leave from work. I have small children and I always go the extra mile for their parties. I started to look at the prices for certain set ups and realized because I wasn’t working I couldn’t afford it. It was family and friends who told me you know how to do all of that just decorate yourself. In decorating for my children a number of people began to reach out especially during the pandemic and I would decorate for them. With that Amaya Balloon and Decor was born. I am still battling kidney disease which hasn’t made the journey easy but my goal is to still provide affordable and professional service. What I want the world to know about me is that I am light and I love to share my gift though decorating and event planning. I want my brand to represent that No matter your circumstances you deserve to be celebrated and uplifted

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since basketball season has started again and my team are the reigning champions I would take them to a Milwaukee Bucks home game if they were playing a home game. For great food spots during the week I would have them check out the Sherman Phoenix that houses black owned eateries and other businesses. For a bit of culture a trip to the Milwaukee art museum or the Marcus center of performing arts to see the symphony or ballet

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my family and my friends for always supporting me and rooting for me when I didn’t see my own light.

Also my children for being my greatest motivation and always keeping me grounded and focused on the goal.
