Meet Jalen Hawkins | Professional photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalen Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalen, what are you inspired by?
Reaching my goals. I love the feeling of achievement I get when I have worked toward an important goal and finally achieved it because it allows me to see my abilities in a greater light.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It was not easy, but I can say it was worth it. I got here by interning at Clark Atlanta University (school I attended) in a photography class. They were looking for interns that want to get their foot through the door and make a name for themselves. I have learned different style of photography, meet different people along the way, and made a lot of great connections. I want the world to know and see my diverse work and what I can bring to the table by telling a story through photos that will last a lifetime.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would show my friend the studio that I work out of and ask them what fun would they would like to create while we are here? If not, then I would take them on an adventure in Atlanta and capture happy moments of their experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Peter Lindbergh a German filmmaker and photographer that inspired me the most by his storytelling into fashion images and he preferred to shoot mostly in black and white. He has worked with models like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Linda Evangelista. One day I hope to shoot high fashion models like them one day.
