Meet Jairuss Whack | Nail Technician & Salon Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jairuss Whack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jairuss, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My reason for starting my own business was simple – I was tired of going to the nail salon and decided to do my own nails. In 2019, I was in my final year at Shaw University. One day, I visited a nearby nail salon but was left unsatisfied with the outcome of my nails. This experience led me to believe that I could do a much better job myself. I decided to invest $1000.00 in nail supplies from Amazon and began to practice on myself, specifically with acrylic nails. It was at that moment that I realized my true passion: providing luxury nail services to women.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a salon owner who provides nail services within my salon. Additionally, I offer salon suites to other beauty professionals in the Durham, NC area. As a licensed manicurist, I provide an intimate luxury salon experience and offer services such as manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, and toe enhancements. My top priority is to provide excellent customer service to all my clients.

I believe what makes me stand out from others is my approach to treating people the way I would like to be treated. Over time, I have noticed that some beauty professionals have lost touch with what it feels like to sit on the other side of the chair. However, I always make sure to give my clients my undivided attention while providing excellent service. During the service, I engage in great conversation, but I understand that some clients may prefer not to talk, so I also offer television with various streaming services to provide additional entertainment options for them.

Being able to achieve all of my success has not been an easy road, but it has shaped me into the person I am today. Some people might not share this information, but I have moved four times in the past five years. I know it sounds crazy, but I believed that God always had something better in store for me. I knew that I wasn’t meant to just work for someone else’s establishment; I was meant to have my own salon. By stepping out of my comfort zone, I realized my potential and was never satisfied with just being comfortable.

As a business owner, I learned to cultivate patience. It was essential for me to remain calm and focused on my ultimate goal of owning a salon while still providing nail services. Patience kept me level-headed and prevented me from reacting impulsively in situations. In my younger years, I would often react before thinking things through. However, as a business owner, I had to consider my brand and reputation, which meant that I couldn’t afford to respond emotionally. Therefore, I learned the importance of being patient and not allowing my emotions to get the best of me.

I want to share with the world. that The Girls Room and Blingedbyjai Beauty Studio were not even a thought 10 years ago. I never imagined that II am today. However, I believe that if I can do it, so can you. All you need to do is believe in yourself and put in the hard work towards your dreams. While my businesses are worth billions, I haven’t made a billion dollars yet. Nevertheless, I believe that I will get there or at least come very close someday!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting me from out of town, we would have a blast! I like to have fun and she likes to have just as much fun as me. We both like to eat at different restaurants like Longhorn, Olive Garden, or Texas Road House. We also like Mexican food and good drinks. We also are very adventurous so we would try Six Flags or Frankies, spontaneous things.

I would like to express my gratitude to God, my lord, and savior, who has been my source of strength and guidance throughout this journey. Without His help, I wouldn’t have come this far, and I am truly thankful for His blessings.

I also want to give a shoutout to my significant other, Dyemonte, who has been a constant support and pillar of strength for me over the past five years. He has always been there to help me with anything I needed, whether it was painting, building furniture, or moving things around. I sincerely appreciate his unwavering support and love.
