We had the good fortune of connecting with Jai’Koa Parham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jai’Koa, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from Heerlen, Netherlands but raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Growing up as a military kid, I feel like you gain a much broader perspective on the world. You end up meeting so many different people from different cultures and end up learning so much. I feel like this has impacted my life immensely as a result when it comes to working on new projects I incorporate a lot of things with respect to many different cultures that I was exposed to during my upbringing.
Can you give our readers an introduction to yourself? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I feel like what sets me apart the most is not following the crowd. I personally think that I have a unique eye when it comes to creating content. I originally got my start in Los Angeles where I was lucky enough to do a comedy skit for the Jimmy Kimmel live show with world renowned music icon Drake. From that point forward I did many auditions, casting calls, and competitions. It hasn’t always been easy they were definitely rough times prior before being on the show I was homeless in Los Angeles for almost a year just trying to make a name for myself. A lot of the adversities that I faced caused depression and doubt. One of the most helpful things was the support of my family reminding me of where I came from and to always have faith no matter what. What I would like for people to know about myself is that I am creative professional looking to revolutionize the way we think when it comes to any form of art. There is no right or wrong way when it comes to creating something new there’s an old expression “the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder “and I believe this to be very true what may look amazing to me might not look amazing to someone else and vice versa that’s perfectly fine we all have our own taste. As far as my story goes I want it to inspire others at the end of the day I am a normal individual who continues to use what I’m most passionate about to achieve my goals and dreams in this life nothing is impossible. I went from a young kid being homeless in the streets of Los Angeles to moving to Atlanta working with some of the biggest names in entertainment history as well as working with some of the biggest international brands. One of my favorite things to live by is actually an excerpt from a William Shakespeare play in which one of the characters from the play called hamlet says “nothing in life is good nor bad only thinking makes it so” basically what that boils down to is the law of attraction and your perspective if you can change your perspective to positivity no matter how bad the situation gets things have a way of always aligning themselves just right.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my best friends visiting the city I would definitely take them to a multitude of places. One of the first spots I would definitely take them to is the Versaces Dominican restaurant for lunch. I grew up eating both Soulfood, Hispanic, and Polynesian food. For Versace Dominican restaurant has some of the best authentic Dominican food. After lunch I will definitely take them by the Coca-Cola museum for some sightseeing maybe hit the botanical garden as well! Also of course I have to take them to Cascade skating rink it’s a staple in the city to go rollerskating at one of the most historic skating rinks. When it comes to shopping there’s no better place than Lenox square mall or even Cumberland Mall both have amazing stores it’s definitely a vibe. As far as the nightlife goes will start off with dinner at sundial restaurant or one of my favorite places is definitely the cheesecake factory. Then we would move on to one of the nightclubs my personal favorite would definitely have to be tongue and groove or Ibiza lounge. Then during the daytime the following day we would definitely have to go for more sightseeing especially downtown at Little five points grab something to eat shoot over to Midtown in the arts District checking out Atlantic station and showing them around there! Honestly just between all the places I just named that’s quite a bit haha.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would absolutely love to dedicate this shout out to my family! As well as the good people of 49th Supply company and Mandeuax. Throughout the years they’ve been nothing but supportive and continuously help me during my journey in my career.
