We had the good fortune of connecting with Jahna Amani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jahna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am a firm believer in the fact that risk taking drives creativity and creates opportunity. I would not be able to create the music that I am creating today without taking risks. Whether that be something small like experimenting with a new genre/sound that may be foreign to me, or something much bigger like putting my personal experiences into a song and releasing it into the world to be digested by anyone it reaches. Taking risks has played a huge role in my career because it has led me to take unexpected turns that have allowed me the space to create what I would call some of my best work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The hardest challenge that I have faced as an artist is the uncertainty of how my music will be perceived. I write my music based on my own life experiences and emotions, and the idea of releasing my personal thoughts translated into a song was always very intimidating. But after overcoming the uncertainty of what releasing music would look like, I’ve rediscovered exactly how powerful music is. I’ve seen how music allows for genuine human connections to be made, especially in some of our most vulnerable states which is so important to me. Overcoming the fear of being vulnerable was a huge challenge, but on the other side was something much bigger; human connection. Whether the listener can relate to an emotional experience that I wrote about, or they just find my music easy to dance to, I’m very excited to see what my music will have to offer with each listen.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, I’d give all the credit in the world to my family. I am far beyond lucky to have my entire family as my number 1 fans. They support me and everything that I create more than I could ever ask them to, and they are truly just the most supportive and loving humans out there. They have always been encouraging no matter what I did and I wouldn’t be making music without them fueling the creative fire in me since I was a kid. My parents definitely deserve a special shoutout for placing every instrument that was on my Christmas list in front of me each year. One toy guitar led to a toy drum set and now a full instrument collection later, I’m pursuing a music career all thanks to the support of my parents.
