We had the good fortune of connecting with Jahasia Dunbar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jahasia, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business/career has taught me is that communication is everything. Personally I would consider myself an introvert so I try to avoid all of the awkwardness, but without taking that leap of faith, i wouldn’t be in the position i’m in now.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve learned to be acceptive of it all! the love, the hate, the praise and criticism. if i wasn’t open to accepting all of these negatives I wouldn’t be able to improve who i am/was!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start by taking them to breakfast at Buddy’s they’re famous for their cereal pancakes, I recommend the cinnamon toast pancakes. Then I would follow up with stopping by at Fotografiska to check out the different exhibits and Washington square park for some inspiration, & to conclude the night we would stop to get ramen & mint matcha lemonade at Buntopia in Brooklyn.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout one of my best friends Kyron. I started taking photography seriously about three years ago and I went into this craze where I direct messaged about ten people and he was the only one that answered immediately. I don’t know I feel like it just takes one person to see the potential in you, to keep you going, and that person for me is Kyron. It started with us just hanging out & grabbing a bite & when the pandemic started we brainstormed so we can execute once everything was back to normal. THANKS KYRON!
