Meet Jah Pugh | JahTheVoice

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jah Pugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jah, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I love quotes. One of my favorite quotes of all time is, “When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take the first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe one of two things to be true: There will be something solid for you to stand upon, or, you will be taught how to fly.” To me, that’s the true essence of faith. Believing in what you don’t see. Believing that either way it go I will not fail, I will not lose. Those two options are simply just the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen but heavily believing one of them to be true, Faith.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think there is a clear distinguish between me and others. As a professional speaker, mentor and coach you hear this word extremely often, “overcoming”. If you’re anything like me, you probably feel it gets thrown around too loosely, too frequently. And I’m guilty myself of using or even over-using it to that matter. But as I’ve grown over the years in business and as a individual I’m general, I decided I wanted to dig deeper. I wanted to go on this journey of self development — soul searching as some would say — and my prayer was simple, “God, set myself apart.”
And as I was on this journey I came across this unfamiliar word, and something prompted me to pause — look up the definition — and get a deeper understanding. Vanquish: “To get the better of by force or strategy. To defeat, thoroughly.” That struck a light in me. So I then looked up the word “overcome.” And it just said: To defeat or succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty.
I knew it right then that God answered my prayer of setting me apart. It was clear as day because I didn’t want to use the word “overcoming” no more. Because my whole business outline for speaking, mentoring, and coaching is to help those exceed, excel and overcome while in the midst of adversity. I knew I was doing more then that, and it just felt as if God himself said it clear as day “You are! And you have been!” Because to were overcome means to just defeat. Vanquish means to defeat, thoroughly! Thoroughly means with regards to every detail. Strategically. By force. And that’s what sets me apart from the pack.
That’s actually what I’m most excited about along my journey and evolution is the clarity and growth. Just being equipped with a clear and precise vision to help and reach the people I once was. I always tell people, and this is my unpopular opinion, but you’re most qualified to help the person you unbecame in order to become who you became today. And me being a person who faced many trials, tribulations and sorts of adversities, coming from one of the toughest places in America — Brooklyn, NY, reaching remarkable feats, my only goal is to reach back and help not just my people but anybody facing adversity, vanquish that joker with proven strategies that got me to where I am today.
It wasn’t easy by far — and I still have a long way to go, but I came a pretty long way. I done been persecuted by the world by over a quarter million of people, publicly! Vanquished that. I done been laughed at, frowned on, doubted on, failed, made mistakes, fell short and got back up, failed, made some more mistakes, fell short and got back up again. And it’s nothing too deep I tell people all the time it’s a simple formula, TACS. You could conquer anything in this world, you could vanquish anything in this world and get pretty far by using that simple formula, by being — Truthful, Accountable, Consistent, and Submitting (TACS). Each category requires a deeper dive but that’s outline of it. That’s the outline of my life. That’s how I overcame, or better yet vanquished each challenge I ever came across.
There were many lessons I learned along the way. Countless. Too many to remember (lol). One of them being, patience. Another one, perspective. It’s never a loss, it’s a lesson. Never failure but fortune. Pain is equivalent to purpose. And it’s never really punishment but rather punish-is-meant.
If I wanted the world to know anything about me, my brand or my story, which is all intertwined, I’ll say the encouragement, the enlightenment, the motivation, the insight, the wisdom, whatever you may receive from me, my story or my brand that gets you going, comes from a divine source. I’m a man of faith who believes heavily in God. When I look back on my life, it looked nothing like it looks now and it was all my fault. That’s accountability. But once I put my trust into a higher power, owe look at me now. It’s real life applicable. It’s efficient and it’s effective.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing about me that I could be honest about is I got to get out more. I got to start having more fun. I been so busy soul searching and developing these past few years I forgot to have fun in the process. I been so stuck on the grind. So much in competition with the person I use to be and trying to get furthest away from him that I don’t ever want to stop. I forget to have fun in the process. The growth that I see is my excitement. The growth that I’m experiencing is my joy.
When I do go out it’s usually with my wife and/or kids and one place I do enjoy, I like people and nature and peaceful things so I love the Beltline which is downtown Atlanta and it provides a beautiful scenery, very family oriented with a well mixture of adult vibes, it has a handful of restaurants and bars, you meet a lot of new interesting people. It’s a great experience all in itself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, well I have a whole community behind me believe it or not. When they say it takes a village? It really does and that village just doesn’t get cut off when you become “of age” or when you become an adult. That village lives on and carries on because we’re all going to get to a stage and age in our life where we don’t know what to do. Often times when it comes to life we cut off the parachute that’s been carrying us our whole life the moment we think we got it all figured out. I thank God I didn’t cut my mother and father off and every other married individual in my life once I turned 21 and became an actual adult because boyyy once I got married — (lol) I needed their 30+ years of experience, wisdom and knowledge to carry me through some of the toughest times in my marriage — and in life, general. So if we’re going to do this, let’s do it right. First and foremost I want to thank God and give him all the credit and all the recognition and all the honor, my Heavenly Father himself. None of this would be possible without him. But secondly, of course none other than the amazing, my beautiful, loving, caring, patient, kind, forgiving, “half hood and half holy” wife herself (lol that’s between me and her). I also want to shoutout my moms and pops who’ve instilled an unwaverable foundation in me and my close knit family of 3 brothers and 8 sisters as well as their significant others. I also want to shoutout my virtual therapist, counselor, psychologist the amazing Esther Perel. I want to give recognition to some great men outside of my family that took mentorship over me starting with my pastor Karl Miller Jr., Trell “DONK” Webb, Coach Rivers, Tony, all my PWG brothers. Some honorable mentions are Inky Johnson, Eric Thomas, Mike Todd. I probably missed many — but this is a glimpse of the village that it took to produce this product that’s here before you today. I’m grateful.
