Meet Jah Jefferson | CPA (Certified Public Accountant)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jah Jefferson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was very strategic, the least to say. I received my final degree in accounting and finance at 22, so for me; that was already an challenge because you’re not likely to get a seat at major corporation tables when you’re young, then on top of that, being a young African-American woman.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have a financial firm which consists of many different financial services. It was not easy getting to the point in my business that I’m in today. Accounting and Finance is a very hectic career anyway, so trying to get people to put their trust Into you is a different ball game, but it’s well worth it once they do.
A major lesson I have learned being a business owner is that you MUST have proper communication skills. If you’re not communicating with your clientele, updating them periodically on a service you may have provided for them, of course they’re going to think the worst… as would I.
I want the world to know you can overcome anything that is thrown your way. Stay the course and keep the faith! Being that I had my now 8 year old son when I was 15, I was always counted out; but I refused to let that stop me! If anything it gave me more motivation to beat the odds and obstacles that were thrown my way. I treat my business as it’s my baby, because only I know the preservance and energy that was put into it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother and my son are 2 of the main reasons I am where I am today. I have had my financial services going on 2 years now! & Honestly, there have been weeks and months I wanted to give up entirely, but with my mother In my corner, she would never let that happen. I’m beyond grateful for her. I’m sure most people receive love and support from their mother, but not like mine — she’s top tier for sure.
My son has literally grew up with me. I had him at such an young age, I couldn’t give up even if I down to my last dollar. He’s my motivation to keep striving no matter how hard things may look or get.
